I think it's great and a definite improvement! The front looks really good. I can't tell from the picture about the bail, but it looks like it started to get away from you. Which is fine, it happens. Overall a fine wrap. I like the cab, too. That came out nice.

I agree with Tela. Came out nice!
Bails are always the most difficult part of the whole thing, at least for me. Once you get that down though, you'll be golden.
Tela made an excellent tutorial for a woven bail if you're up to it:

What kind of wire were you using? Just asking because I think you might try something different for better results. Looks like square half hard?

Thanks again!

I like it. I have yet to do a more involved bail.

I think that your choice of where you placed the wire really enhances the stone!

Great stone. I pretty much only use 20 gauge dead soft square for the main wires in my full wraps. I did struggle with copper though. 20 Gauge dead soft silver is much easier then 20 gauge dead soft copper. The rule of thumb is that if you practice on copper and get good then silver will be a piece of cake.

Of course, being impatient I bought silver and learned that lesson quickly!

Keep it up Mike! The wrap really accents the pattern in the Palm Root stone very well. They have the same kind of wavy look to them. That's what makes it special.

Thanks Bill, I love the stone but I'm not super happy with the wrap. The more I look at it, the more I see that could have been better. I have a long way to go!

Patience, grasshopper! If you are truly unhappy with the wrap, then take it apart and try again. Copper is relatively inexpensive and that makes it easier to do over. One tiny piece of constructive criticism: When you are binding your bail wires together, use only a couple of turns of half-round to hold them. Then form (or weave) your bail and then use the rest of the half-round to bind it next to the first couple of binding wraps. It will make it look neater. If I have a lot of wires because I was weaving a bail, I will take the ends on the back and curl them under as close to the bindings as I can get them. That will keep everything tight. Here's a picture of what I mean:

I think you may have better luck if you use 2 square and 2 round wires in your wraps- round on the outside of the bundle. If you are using 3 wires, make the middle square. Round wires will be easier and neater to turn in to hold the stone. Square gets off square very easily and doesn't look good. Also, you might have better luck with 1/2 hard wire. If you have a pinvise, you can twist round soft wire to make it almost 1/2 hard. You can twist square soft for a nice twist wire, that will make it 1/2 hard.
What Robin said will give you some space between the stone and the bail and make it easier to work and look better.
You'll get it, Mike. I have no doubt. Just keep working on it. Copper is cheap.

Thanks for the tip- and the encouragement. 😀 I may redo it after all, the stone is so nice!
