I recharged the 45c yesterday and thought everything was good and tight, threw it on and went to bed. Woke up, had my coffee and went down to see that everything was still spinning, the 45c lid came open and all the nice juice spilled out. It didn’t get all over the tumbler, but leaked all over the workbench, and all over the floor, the barrel had also stopped turning. Here is what is in the barrel after I rinsed them off: Some mexican lace after 1.5 weeks in 80 grit. Before it started tumbling: Some mahogony obsidian before: And what is in the barrel: Some green moss agate before: And after 1.5 weeks in 80: And some pet. wood after 1.5 weeks in 80 Thanks for looking. I love looking at pictures in here....

Well, it might have been a rather unplanned barrel opening, but that stuff is shaping up remarkably quickly! It's going to look great when it's finished.

wow! that green moss agate has a lot of color in it, that will be extremely nice when it's polished up. i love that mahogany obsidian too, but isn't that a bit soft to be tumbling with the agates? sure does look nice tho! and the mex lace, well, what can i say, you'd be hard pressed to show me a piece of that i didn't like. sorry to hear about the mess, but can't wait to see some of this batch finished! Thank you, all. The green moss agate I got up in Cedarberg Wi. from the Gem Shop. Real nice people there and we loved picking through all the rock they have in the basement, can't wait to go there in nice weather to look through all they have outside.

Great looking Stones! Do you put baking soda in your barrels? I always do in the course cycles.

It must be true than! I've read that if you add baking soda or tums to all the stages except pre-polish and polish it helps prevent the gas from blowing your lids off.
I also read that if you put sugar in the the pre-polsh and polish stages that it makes the slurry thicker and helps prevent the rocks from violent tumbling and damage. Has anyone ever tried these?

Truly sorry about your blow-out, but you have achieved really amazing results after only 1.5 weeks in 80 grit. How did you do that? Your rocks are beautiful!

Well, I didn't put tums or baking soda in, I have read that it will slow the gas build up too. One thing that I did, was read that alittle less water in your first grit really speeds up the process quite abit. I shouldn't call it a "blowout" I had just recharged the barrel and didn't have enough time to get "gassy" The bearrel didn't seal good, despite cleaning the rim good. Just a fluke thing I guess, and I learned a lesson. Thanks for the compliments. It means alot coming from you all.

I'm glad to hear others like that obsidian, I love it. Some pieces are transparent also... I got a real good deal on it too:just about 10 lbs and paid 17.50, including shipping.
