Well, I've got another dozen or so pendants to post, but they are all the same boring practice attempts, which look very much like the prior batches, so I figured to spare people the look.
But I did finish one that came out better than I expected. And it is a wire weave. I didn't know what to do really, so I went online and found a picture which had patterns for 5 wire weaves, and 4 wire ones. And another picture that had a 2 wire and 3 wire one.
Here is what the finished product looks like, when over exposed.
I practiced a couple of weaves on a bunch of test wire, and it looked like patterns where starting to show, so I tried to do a pendant. This is just a bit larger than 30 x 20, and in Amethystine.
The problem is, I didn't watch any videos, and didn't know that you needed to provision something for the back, to hold the stone in place. I kind of got lucky, in that my main wires were long enough to wrap back around, and capture enough of the back, so that I could take the same 1 line which I started this wrap with, to kind of frame the lower back.
See what I mean? Far from perfect, I think that hopefully the thing won't flip around some day, and show everyone my botched attempt to hold the stone in place. I also left marks, where the wire rubbed off on the stone, when I was trying to make the twists to securely put tension on the little 26 gauge wires.
Anyway, I thought I would share. Thanks for stopping by!

I think it looks great. Weaving looks way to intricate for my clumsy hands. If this was your first I cant wait to see the next ones.

It's obvious to me that not only do you have the tenacity to figure out wrapping and weaving, you also have a talent for it! Kudos on an excellent first weave!

Great job! The back is fine. They are done in lots of ways and most are similar to yours. Your weave is a variation of Lisa Barth's wire weave. The bail looks really good!

This is my variation of her weave. Covellite. For the back you pretty much do what you did- attach some wire to the outside wire and run across. I didn't do a woven bail on mine.
I like weaves a lot, but they kill my hands, so I just do a few bails now and again. You're off to a great start!

Wow, you are a quick learner. That is so nice! I've always liked the weaves, but don't have the patience or dexterity to pull it off. You've come a long way in a short time. Your mention of not pre-planning wire lengths reminds me of something Bob Ross (painting guy on PBS) always says - “We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” Life is a learning experience. Keep up the good work, and keep sharing it with us! Jean

Thank you all for the compliments and kind words. It took more than twice as long as a usual wrap. And in the end, I am not sure that all of my prior wrapping skills actually helped me. It is kind a whole different beast. I don't really know where I got the idea for the body of the pattern. It came from this picture: I wanted a 5 wire wrap, so that I could use the bottom wire as the base to hold the rock in place. But ended up going a different direction, becausae of the practice piece I was using, it made it looked scrunched kind of, if you bent the bottom wire around much. The bail pattern and the wire wrap in front pattern both came from a screen shot that someone named "Oxana" shared. As it turns out, it was from a video. Here is the video link. It is very interesting, because it shows 4 different ways of wrapping 2-wire's. I noticed that she has a lot of videos. It would probably be in my best interest to watch some of them and get ideas. Right now I am doing it off the top of my ignorant head, but I am starting to think I am missing out on a lot of good instruction by watching others. I really like your version of the weave rockjunquie. Your twists up by the bail are so nice, it almost looks like you are using dead soft wire. I know I couldn't do that. Thank you for sharing! Well, I have been such a stranger to the RTH lately. Just been too busy to even make rocks, really. Thank you again for the nice words of encouragement!

Both Oxana and Lisa were members of JewelryLessons.com when I was there- back in the day. We all sold tutorials.
