Hi Folks, Here is my latest batch out of polish. The mix is primarily koi jasper/red&white jasper with some green aventurine. There are also a few stray odd balls in the batch. The polish batch was a bit larger than I thought. I wanted to use more beads than normal because I was afraid that the different colors of the Koi Jasper were a different hardness, so I wanted as much separtion as possible between the rocks. The rest of the batch was put into the dual 3 pounder for polish. This will probably come out of polish next (I have to get to work on weekend chores and the honey due list.....yeah right) I have been using the same formula for awhile: Coarse - until I am happy with the shape 120/220 - one week 500 - one week 1000 - one week Polish (cerium oxide) - one week. In between each stage, I also clean the rocks using Ivory soap shavings. I would prefer to use Borax because Borax doesn't get all sudsy, but the Borax disappears so fast around my house, especially with two kids around. I'll have to re-package the Borax, using the red folgers container and label it - "burnishing" compound! After coarse, the other stages could probably go less than a week, but weekends are the only time that I have time to play with the tumblers. The first picture is about half of the batch out of the Big B. A couple of close ups: The last picture is the second half of the lot

Oh how pretty, love the green aventurine. The more I see the green rocks, the more I like them. Guess I need to get me some green aventurine, seems like it polishes so nicely. Thanks Cal!

Beautiful batch of rocks, Cal! Love them all! I've used grated Ivory bar soap as often as Borax in my tumblers due to difficulty finding Borax in our area. I like them both, but using Borax seems easier to me. We had house guests for 8 days ending yesterday. They had the 'nerve' to use my Borax in their LAUNDRY! Next time I'll know better and hide the Borax before house guests arrive! ;D ;D ;D BE

Redwood, those are so pretty! They remind me of Christmas also! I just love that green adventurine! And jasper! I have never done any of that particular like, but thus far, I have never seen a pic of jasper I don't like!
I'm SO easy when it comes to rocks! ;D

Nice looking stones Cal. Is the Koi Jasper the one that has some black in it? Looks like it shapes up nicely.

Very lovely batch, good job. I love aventurine, I don't know about yours but after I polished mine up gold spots appeared in on the stones. Tami

I really like the patterns and banding on those stones. They look awsome! Looks like you found the magic formula. Those are all brilliant! Super Job and it looks like you borrowed KD's Photo display set-up ;D -Banjo

Thanks all for the kind replies.
Rosebud, I was thinking the same thing, I don't have any green rocks, now my bowl has the budstone, and the aventurine. I had some light aqua/green amazonite, but I wasn't too happy with results, so no pics of the failures.
Ed, the Koi jasper does shape up very nicely. I had some bigger than normal pieces (2-3 inches or so) in the batch, after a while I thought the pieces were a little too big, so I let the coarse grit just grind them down to the round shape.
Tami, I don't see any gold flakes in mine, but I do see silvery shiny flakes when moving the rock.
Banjo, Yes, KD gets all the credit on the paper plate idea - thanks KD. Except I think she uses a new plate each time. Mine is used and a bit dirty, but does the trick on giving a sense of scale to the rocks.

cal great batch! can't wait to see the rest. if your wife gets you to do the "honey do" list i want to know how. my hubby must have gone on strike because i left for spring break. looked like he did nothing while i was gone - wait a minute - that's what he does while i'm here too . but just around the house because i could never say that about him at work. kim
