Well, got back today (before the awful snowstorm) and here are some picts of what we found. We really found lots of stuff in a small amount of time. We found fossils, petrified wood, agates, geodes, jasper and a lot of unknowns. It was a great time and we all got back safely; no cars wrecks or troubles, no kids bit by ants, no skakes, ticks, or scorpions. No getting caught in flash floods. We missed being in a terrible accident coming thru a mountain pass. The roads were snowpacked and there were multiple cars involved and overturned. I'm guessing we missed it by 2 or 3 minutes. It just makes your heart sick. Hope everyone got out OK. Anyway here are the picts: Pict 1: kids and I digging near ant piles for Celestite Geodes- Pict 2: Some Petrified wood, geodes and ? Pict 3: Some agates Pict 4: Agate closeup and fossil? Pict 5: Sampling Pict 6: Bigger Sampling Pict 7: Closeup of some kind of fossil? Pict 8: Getting the heck outta Dodge. We made it out just in time. Well thanks for looking. Gaetz

Gaetz, Looks like you found the right place! I did try to call you but it was too late in the day when I got your message, sorry. In your top pic, the rock on the upper left looks mostly like celestite, haven't tried tumbling any but it polishes up really nice Jeff

Hey you got some really cool rocks there. That looks so neat, a place to pick for rocks where it's just flat and no trees. Not that I have anything agaist trees mind you, it's just that they are all over, up here, no areas of bare ground like that. If it's not covered with trees, it's a swamp. Those are going to be awesome finished, bet you can't wait to get them in the tumblers. Cher

Cher-
Well I don't think we could've gone at a better time. No unbearabe heat, snakes, scorpions or anything. We had gotten so much rain that all the sand had washed away and the the rocks were just sitting right on top for easy pickings. Every once in a while you'd see a little red peeking out from the sand which would require a little digging w/ a screwdriver. It made it very easy.
I'm going back down there in 2 weeks. I should take out my current load of petrified wood and put in some of this stuff to see what are keepers and what are not.

Cool stuff Tim. You've really come a long, long, ways in a short amount of time as a rockhound. I'm looking forward to seeing those rocks after they've been polished. They look like they are going to be great. Nice pic of you and your little ones rockhounding. If there is one thing I enjoy, that is to see wee ones as they "discover" rocks. Their expressions, look of wonder, and curiosity makes rockhunting trips all the better. This will be a hobby that they will never outgrow.

Condor-
You hit it right on the head about the little ones. If it was up to them, we'd have the whole desert in our garage right now. "OOOOh dad, look at this one, hurry daddy, look at this one, can we keep this one...." They'd run 50 yards tripping over cactus, sagebrush and anthills just to show us a rock. It was a ton of fun.
