So, rockjunquie sent me a beautiful slab of Graveyard Point a while back. It's taken me a while, but I think I've finally gotten over being scared to work beautiful rocks. This stuff was a bit finicky, and I decided to cut off the "imperfection" that can be seen in the first pic. So I'm asking the experienced cabbers- did I make the right choice, or should I have left it? Thanks!

- did I make the right choice, or should I have left it? My answer is an unambiguous 'yes' Seriously, it looks fine to me. I do have pieces I'll never, ever cut (some are now face-polished for specimens, some I don't even want to risk that - you can't always tell what is a few micrometers underneath that could destroy the pattern or open up a flaw). You own it, so you get to do whatever you want with it, but I think your cab looks worthy of being set into a jewel.

First thing to ask is whether the vug is an asset or liability. In this case the latter. I think the finished cab looks better (in my imagination) rotated 180 degrees.

I think it was totally up to you what to do with it. That's what cabbing is all about- making those calls. I would have probably done the same thing.

I figured it probably would have just broken in the tumbler in that spot anyway. And I trust your imagination- I'll definitely keep that in mind when I go to wrap it!

The finished piece is super nice. Don't second guess yourself!
