Good day all.
All right, just to keep the treadmill of practice projects going, I figured that I would post another batch. These practice projects are sometimes very similar, but it appears that my imagination is not allowing me the creativity to deviate from the basic formula these days. But here goes.
P034 - Green Stained Bunny by a Tree
This is just some Chrysocolla or Azurite stained Quartz type rock that I found in the mine junk outside of a Arizona Copper mine, wrapped in fake gold 22 gauge. My wife likes bunnies, and said that it is a picture of a bunny sitting under a tree. So, I will go with that. Good luck trying to envision it though.
P035 - White Jerome AZ Junk Agate
This is some of the better Agate (I was told it was Chert, but I don't know), that I found when I was vacationing in Sedona (I love Sedona) a couple of months ago. I actually drove out and picked this rock up with a 8" Raytech grinder in the back of the Jeep as I had just purchased it earlier in the day in Prescott. I like the colors of this (don't show up well in this pic). Its not a perfect rock, but the tripple bail is hard to pull off for me. It's a larger rock done in 20 gauge.
Here, maybe this shows the color a little better. It is actually even prettier than the pictures. Just very large. I was going for an "arrowhead" theme. The rock just spoke to me on it. I absolutely messed up the bail, and almost started over.
P036 - Amethystine Triangle freeform
So, this one was harder than I thought. Getting the wire to have very tight tension on the rock is difficult with this chubby, odd shaped one, and the free form 18 gauge fake gold wrap is much more interesting on the back than on the front. I should have taken a picture of the back. But I didn't. It is contemporary looking I think. Wife wants nothing to do with it, and it sits in a "misfit wraps" display case off to the side; which are projects that she doesn't like much, and has orphaned, and will probably never wear.
Here, I just snapped a picture of the 'land of misfit wraps'. Pity, some of my favorite projects are there. Every orphaned wrap should have an owner. Just saying. Poor little guys.
P037 - Lavic Jasper sword
I didn't want to include this one, but it was more difficult than I thought. The 18 gauge wire was a pain to wrap, and then neatly hide the bail at the same time. It ends up being what I wanted to achieve though. I had to dremel small grooves in the handle area, so that the wire would not slide around. Made with only 1 wire.
P038 - Stromatolite Shell
This is a rock that I have a good deal of, but I don't work with much. The layers are interesting, but there are often pits or imperfections in the Stromatolite colonies, as is the case with this one. I wanted a more flashy bail. I got the 4 wire bail to work, but ended up making the wrap at the top not so smoothly. It is done in 24 gauge. Not a big rock. Funny fat shapes are hard.
P039 - Lavic Oval ornamental (Oriental)
I didn't just want to do the same old wrap and bail. And my wife was nagging (encouraging) me to create simpler bail designs and less flashy tops. So, I did something opposite and made the most crazy looking top I could think of. She says that it looks Asian. The 22 gauge wrap is not the smallest stone either.
P040 - Chrysocholla Stained Teardrop
More Copper mine tailings mine junk rock. But I love the colors, which are different than the other darker rocks that I usually find. The rock is soft, doesn't take polish easily, but happens to be very light weight. So wearing the pendant is easy, even with larger wraps. This is 22 gauge fake silver and gold. Perfect bail.
P041 - Lavic Jasper Tutorial Rock
I overexposed the shot so that it would make the yellows and reds pop more. But the rock is pretty cool. It is the largest and heaviest thing I have wrapped, in 18 gauge, and was the subject of my wire wrapping tutorial series of videos. Almost no chance it ever gets worn.
Well, I have another batch to post after this, but I will hold off for now. I have a deadline of 2 weeks before I am in Seattle for a special 1 year grandbaby birthday and Asian family get together. I am making 7 pendants, one for each of the women in the family who will be there. If I don't get started with them now, then I will probably miss my deadline.
Thank you for stopping by, as usual!
