Not everyone knows what "MH" is, a better description would help. Having a proper name would enable me to research the material online to see more of what it looks like.

I need to get the clutch replaced on my Covington 16 inch saw. I have a new clutch, but have general anxiety over anything bu the most basic repairs. It takes two people to replace the clutch so I will hire a handyman and be the assistant. IU have a 14 inch almost new mk301 blade mounted. I had no reason to get the saw fixed because I had nothing to cut. I solved that problem
I need to have a sign made and installed at the bottom of my driveway. There was one but it rotted out more than 10 years ago and some delivery drivers are challenged finding our house. I don't think it will make a difference, but my wife does so the sign will please her. I know where the sign can be made but digging the hole, mixing the cement etc. is beyond my current capabilities. This is something I would have done myself some years ago, but I know my limitations.
I got the piece on ebay from the seller I posted about on the vendor feedback forum. He rock hounds the Morgan Hill. I won't know how good a purchase I made, until I see it and cut it. It looks like it will make very nice cabs.

I posted a schematic of the Covington clutch ( at least as my friend and I envisioned it. A search should turn it up. Good luck with your repair

Well that's one good thing, A mans got to know his Limitations. Since having a stroke myself my body says yes, but my mind says NO! I guess I need to know mine, till then I will just ask Harry Callahan. By the way good looking Poppy Jasper!

I'm doing a swap out instead of a rebuild. I'll get the instructions from Covington. The main think is that the threaded piece needs to be cut to size with a hacksaw.

I ordered a sign. I thought it would be easy. There's a Neighborhood forum and someone posted a hardware store that made signs some time ago. I called---nope. I went on Yelp looking for someone that made embossed wooden signs. Closest was a woodshop, so I called---=nope. Do you know someone?---nope. Thought about Etsy and ordered the sign I wanted for around $250. When it arrives, I'll get a handyman to install it which won't be cheap. The sign probably won't do any good, but there was one before and I won't have to listen to my wife complain --win. Whoever I hire will replace the clutch on my Covington with my assistance----win.

I glued the Morgan Hill to a board using water glass yesterday. I'm going to try to cut it tomorrow with the bad clutch. It's softer than porcelain jasper so I might be able to cut it. Otherwise, my sign arrives on Friday and I'll try to find a handyman. The seller ground an area relatively flat because it was probably to big for his saw. The material I got from his was usable, but has flaws. I'm eager to try to find out how usable it is.

Blade kept binding and I would back it off and restart until the blade got past thickest point. Inhaled a lot of oil fumes repeatedly checking it. One slab and a heel. Fractures marked. I won't know about the fractures that run parallel to the face until I grind edges. No more slabbing until the clutch is replaced. Heel on the right.

This is the piece faced. 6x3 and 3 inches deep. Once I get the clutch replaced I should have plenty of Morgan Hill to work on. Every rough purchase is a gamble and even with fractures I should get some nice slabs to work on.

Looks like your gamble paid off. Very nice! You'll be good for MHP for awhile.

The handyman who is going to install the sign and help me with the clutch will be here on Friday. I was thinking about getting a new smaller saw, but I really didn't have that much to slab. In anticipation of having the Covington working, I bought more rough and now have about 15 pounds of rock to cut. I'll be switching from a cabber to a slabber.

The clutch was replaced. For something so simple it was not easy and I'm glad I didn't have to attempt it. I still need to adjust it which shouldn't take long. Covington says to unplug the saw and grab the threaded feed with my fingers and when I can stop the rotation with a lot of force, that is when the clutch is properly adjusted. I think it done but will check again tomorrow and make a few passed against the silicon carbide.
I have Morgan Hill, Blue Owyhee, Blue Biggs, Jelly Bean and some small Montana I glued to blocks a while ago.
