Thought I'd try some silver and gold wire. As always, critiques and suggestions are requested...and I realize it's not the best picture, I may take another. Thanks for looking!

Thanks my friend. Here's another picture...I fixed the loose gold wire on the binding, lower left.

I like this, but I like some of your others better. I hate to say it, but I don't like the tops of the heart being bare like that. It makes it look like it will fall out. I know it won't, but it looks like it. How many wires did you use?

It looks great to me. I don't see what Tela sees, but I know exactly zero about wrapping, or metal work in general. The design looks nice, everything looks neat and tight, my only comment is that the design doesn't emphasize the heart shape and the bail hides the top "v", so I wouldn't have noticed it was a heart shape if you hadn't mentioned it in the title. It looked like a nice rounded triangle shape - but it looked great as that

I always use 4, but a whole lot of people use 3. You should have had a wire that would stay on the girdle of the cab. So, you could have one on the front and back to lock it in and one on the girdle. If the cab is small, I will use 22g, either 3 or 4 depending. If it is bigger, I use 4 20g.

Thank you, ma'am! 😃

I also use the same gauges (sometimes smaller if the stone is smaller or thinner). I rarely use less than 4 wires. I will use more if I'm using a smaller gauge wire for whatever reason.

I've never wrapped before it's definitely pretty. Agreed you don't see that it's a heart shape the way you designed it. Also, isn't gold wire super expensive? I'd probably save the good stuff and work with copper and silver for a while. If you sit the cab upright propped on something you can force the hot spot from your lighting to go to the tippy top of the piece when you get the proper angle.

Like I said I may redo it I haven't 100% decided. Actually it's gold filled, it wasn't too bad price wise.

miket I meant to say this sooner and forgot. In case you didn't know, save all of your gold fill (and silver) scraps to send in for $$$.

I'm with Tela and Robin. I use four wires on almost all of my wraps. I like to see the cabochon and because it's a heart shape I think it would look better with the "shoulders" framed by the wire.

Take number 2 is in progress as we speak...I have some ideas, we'll see if I can execute them. Thanks for the input!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
ETA: Tela is spot on about saving your silver and gold wire. Keep them separate. When you have enough you can send it in and get a credit or cash for it.

Well, I re-wrapped it. And I don't think I like it. It looks more like a heart for sure- and I used four wires- but I'm not very happy with the job that I did, I think I took another step backward. I'm about to give up on this one for a while and move on...

miket This is MUCH better! I'm sorry you are disappointed with it, but I like it and I see you are doing new things, too. Overall, I think you did a great job!

Thank you, ma'am, I appreciate the compliment. Especially coming from someone who has your wrapping skills. It's not that I'm disappointed in it, exactly- but I see parts of it that I may have been able to do better. I do like the fact that you can see the heart shape better and it was definitely easier working with four wires. As far as doing new things go, it's pretty much all new to me and I'm still having fun! I know I have a ways to go, but someday I'll hopefully develop my own style and start cranking these things out. And thanks again for the tips!
