I'm almost embarrassed to post this after seeing rockjunquie 's incredible work. Anyway, comments and advice are appreciated- someday I'll get this down. Stupid bails- not sure why I have such a hard time with them!

Beautiful stone. How does it hang? It looks like you might need to bend the bail. I like it, though, and I think your bails are getting better. I like the fluidity of this. The way you pulled in the locking wires looks good. Each one gets better, Mike.

Just kidding, I haven't even gotten that far on anything I've wrapped. I'm still trying to work on the design and the mechanics of this whole wrapping thing. Thanks for the kind words!

I feel wrapped bails like this are a pain in the.....
I would think this one would hang slightly crooked, which is OK. Just put something like yarn, or ribbon through the bail and see how it hangs. If it looks good to you, no problem.

I like this one, too, Mike. The stone is awesome!
Can you take a picture of the back so I can see that part of the bail?

Thanks, Robin. It really is a cool stone, I'll probably end up redoing the wrap- it's ok, but I kind of want to get past ok. Here's the back, I just kind of curled the bail wires because I didn't really know what else to do with them. The problem is that I come up with a decent design and when I get to the bail I'm like "now what?"

The problem is that I come up with a decent design and when I get to the bail I'm like "now what?" If I had a mere penny for every time I have said that! I think no matter how long you have been doing this, you still ask yourself that sometimes.
There is nothing wrong with turning those wires under. But, you could cut the wires shorter, use just the tips of your pliers and turn under just the tips to get them to lay down better.
My secret weapon. EVERY wire wrapper needs a pair of these.
Or, if they were longer, you could get some nice curls to sit flat.
You're thinking the right way, though, those wires needed to be turned under. Good for you.

Ok, what Tela said.
Also, square wires will look really messy if they are bunched up. You need to try to keep them in line for the bail. If you have too many wires at the top when you go to do your bail, you can pick out a couple to use as your bail. The number of wires you use will totally depend on you and what you want to create. Bind the wires you are going to use for the bail with half-round two or three turns -- leave the half-round attached. Then form your bail and bring those wires down even with the front of the bail and bind them with the half round again to secure them. If the wires are too long hanging down from the bail, trim them and turn them under. Turning them under does two things -- it tightens the binding wires on the bail and it gets rid of the rough edges so that they don't catch or scratch.
Here's a link from one of your other threads of what I mean:
The extra wires that you don't use for your bail you can use for decoration however you want. On the wrap in the link, I just cut them all as even as I could and turned them down over the front of the bail.
Hope that helps a bit!

I looked at your post hummingbirdstones and actually that would have been the way to go with this one. However, since I love this particular stone so much I believe that I am going to redo it. I may try the bindings in gold this time, I think it would go well with the black and blue. Thanks Robin!

You'll be way happier with the result.

miket and hummingbirdstones I have been using these for a very long time and have found them to be very good quality. I did have on break one time, but it was a fluke. One word of caution: They DO leave marks because of the small size and the force used. Even when you condition them they will leave marks. I rarely use them on the front of the piece, but I will use them to turn a small curl if I know I will be cutting that part off. To me, they are indispensable along with my xuron needle nose flat nose.
Mike, when I start a wrap, any wrap, I use a sharpie to mark the top and usually bottom of the stone. I then work from the bottom up on each side separately. Then the 2 sides meet at dead top where you start the bail. Marks will come off with acetone or you can mark them where they will be covered. This way, you will always have an even hanging bail.

Thanks for the warning, I can't wait to try them out. Smart on the sharpie. So my method of "Hmmm, that looks good" isn't right? I started redoing it today, if I finish I'll put up a pic. Unfortunately, I already bent the wires for the bail before seeing this! Oh well, more practice...

Thanks, Robin. It really is a cool stone, I'll probably end up redoing the wrap- it's ok, but I kind of want to get past ok. Here's the back, I just kind of curled the bail wires because I didn't really know what else to do with them. The problem is that I come up with a decent design and when I get to the bail I'm like "now what?" NO redoing the wrap leave it alone Mike

He really likes the cab and wants a better wrap for it. I think we have all done that before.
