Hi everyone, I have been working on some things to take to this weekend's craft show in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Some of you folks know that I make fishing lures out of rock ... and some of you newer people may not have seen any of these beofre ... so here you go. This is Crazy Lace Agate - wouldn't it be awesome if there was an actual fish that looked like this This is Golden Tiger Eye ... for Tiger Musky ;D This is Rutilated Quartz - there was too many inclusions for me to use in my cabs ... so, I made a fishing lure from it! A combination of Gold and Green Tiger Eye - gorgeous chatoyancy. Mahogany Obsidian with some faint color bands in the material. They show up much better in person. Snowflake Obsidian. These were not designed to actually catch fish ... more like catch fishermen/fisherwomen ;D I make these from all kinds of stone and the entire process of making one is about 2 hours a piece. Once the shape has been ground down, I drill the holes, then I take and grind a slight curve to make the body of the fish, then when that is over it's off to be polished. When the polish is all done and I am happy with it ... I flip it over and repeat the entire process, so there is a lot of work that goes into each one of these. Once the hardware (hooks, split rings, eye-lets and eye's) have been installed (by use of an epoxy cement), I put hook guards on them. This way kids can actually handle them without getting ..................... harmed ... you thought I was going to say "hooked" ... didn't you ;D Well, I have tons of stuff to get ready before we head out tomorrow. If you happen to be in the area ... stop in and say hello Enjoy, John

John those are sooo cool! I didn't know you make lures too, what a neat idea. Are the little eyes glued on with the epoxy stuff too? Those would make neat gifts for fisher"people". Hey dude, much good luck on your craft show, hope you sell out.
Cher
PS ... get the screendoor up yet?

Hi KD, I ask 20.00 a piece for them ... and I can hardly keep them in stock. It seems that we are consistantly selling out ... which is good ... it just means more work for me I don't mind though ;D I get my diamond bits from Tripps, I think they are .99 a piece .. if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks for the luck ... with gas at 2.18 a gallon and it's a 258 mile drive (one way) ... I'll take all the luck I can get ;D John

Hi Cher,
These have an extremely sticky adhesive on them ... once in place and pressed onto the surface ... they are a real pain to get off. They are designed/used for real fishing lures!
Thanks Cher!
I believe that I had shown these long before you ever joined the board.
Take care,
John

Hey Cher,
I don't know why I bailed ... I guess I am loosing my mind!
I make all kinds of things from rocks ... cabs, clocks, fishing lures, guitar picks ... you name it!
I just made some cabinet knobs for a lady friend of our. She was talking with me at the last show we done (two weeks ago) and we were talking about her upcoming kitchen renovation. I told her that she needed some cabinet pull knobs that were made from rock ... and she thought that was a great idea ... and then the question ..."they don't make door pull from rock ... do they?" ... I said no ..."but, I can".
I didn't get any photo's of them before I delivered them ... but I am making a spare one for he ... just in case something should ever happen to one of the eigth she purchased from me.
As soon as I get it finished ... most probably next week ... I'll get some photo's of it and get it posted ... so everyone can see what they looked like.
Well, I had better get busy ... too much to do!
Enjoy,
John

john i want some drawer pulls! my coffee table HAD 4 wood drawer pulls on each drawer (2 drawers so 8 pulls total) that my child has stripped. so some are gone, others are hanging on mostly as decoration and if you really try to open the drawer they come off in your hand. can you make me some if i show you what i'm trying to replace and how much unstained wood is under each pull that i need to cover?

Those are great! You should probably know that I tell folks about your lures and your picks and they don't really believe me until they see the pics and then it's nothing but "WOW!". Your skill inspires awe and smiles and makes people happy even when they know nothing about stones. What a power that it. What a wonderful way you use it. Thanks for sharing and for being such and inspiration!

Hi everyone, Well, I think I have just about got everything ready to go ... I am really loooking forward to this craft show ... it's like a mini vacation ... only we don't get to go and do much sight seeing ;D Don't get me wrong ... I have been rockhounding in the dark before ... I will have to see of there is anything in the area that is close enough to go and check out during the evening hours ;D Kim - You bet ... please let me know what you are looking for or looking to replace. I will see what I can come up with. What diameter of pull are you looking for? I take hard wood door pulls and cut the domed top off and then apply the cabbed rock onto the wood with epoxy. Also, let me know what kind of rock you are thinking about using or would like to use. One last question ... do you want oval, round, square, trilliant, rectangle, etc. cabbed stones? The last ones I made were round and were made of Crazy Lace Agate. Hermatite - There is nothing more rewarding than to hear that someone appreciates my work ... and I would like to say "Thank You" for making my day a little brighter. It also encourages me to continue on with this great hobby. Your words have definitely helped my mental state of mind ... thank you, it is greatly appreciated! We just found out that my wife is most probably going to be loosing her job ... so that isn't very good . Anybody want to buy a couple of acres of land with a three bedroom house, three car detached garage, a 24 x 32 foot building and a couple of out buildings? If things don't start to get a little better around here ... I might try to get up to Oregon! Then, I could live off of the land and gather rocks ;D Enjoy, John

john im me with your address and i'll send you a couple of the ones that are still hanging on and the screws for you to use to gauge them by. and you'll be able to see the color of the table by looking at them. my daughter had to work pretty hard to ruin them all but she succeeded. the dog ate a few after they fell off so it was a team effort.

Hi Kim,
I just sent you the i/m.
That is funny about a combined effort ... we used to have a dog that liked to chew on the backs of our wood kitchen tables ... and when our son was little ... he used to do the same ... except on the legs of the same chair ... it was the dumbest thing I think I have ever seen.
It wasn't like our son was starving or nothing like that ... and when you would ask him why he was doing that ... he would tell us ... "the dog thinks it's good ... I wanted to try it to".
Oh, our son was pistol when he was a little boy ... he loved to do everything that the dog and cats were doing.
We woke up one morning and thought one of our cats had a major problem in the litter box ... come to find out ... it was Johnny ... he wanted to see what the big deal was about going #2 in the litter box. At the time it wasn't funny ... as my wife had a 38 pound Siamese cat .. and we thought it might be possible!!!
Oh, the wonderful memories of our son's childhood years.
Enjoy,
John

John, You and your wife hang in there. Like my mom used to say, "God doesn't close a door without opening a window." Maybe your show this weekend will be your 'window'. Your work is outstanding and unique, and I bet you'll do great at the show! Good luck!

John, I am so very sorry to hear that. My hubby's been out since early February so I know where you're coming from. Tighten the belt and hunker down, it might get rough but as long as you have each other and friends, it will be ok.

Those are some great fishing lures. Those are the type of lures that you would be afraid to loose. Tami

John- Guitar picks? Are they for show or use? I like a traditional med play pick And have thought about the sound a stone pick would give! Hmm Pix and prices please!
