I got my order from Rio for a little bit of wire and a small pack of 10 sunshine cloths. I was wondering why the box was so big and heavy. I opened it, thinking I may have put in a surprise order since it was abt 2 in the morning. Nope. They messed up and sent me a BULK pack of 100 cloths!!! Holy Moly that's like 200.00 not 20.00.
What would you do? I have already made up my mind. I'll tell ya later.

If they accidentally sent you an extra 10 I think they would tell you to just keep them but an extra 90 at $2 each they may want them back. If they do want them back I hope they send you a prepaid envelope so there is little to work for you. I know the mark up on sundry items is usually extreme so their loss is not as bad it seems.

Yep, I'm with Pat . I'm sure you're a good customer so they will probably end up telling you to keep them. Plus, as Drummond Island Rocks said, I'm sure there's a huge markup. And there's always good karma and all...

I would never presume to force my opinions on others, do what feels right for you. But because you asked, I have to say, me personally, I would tell them. Knowing there's a huge mark-up, I know the loss wouldn't bankrupt them, but honesty is always the best policy. Good Karma, and all that. (Enough cliches? Lol.) I realize being honest shouldn't require a reward, but if they ask for them back, they should make it up to you. Discount on next purchase, maybe? My worth.

I REALLY, REALLY wanted to keep them, but I knew if I did, it would just hang over my head and bring me bad karma, so I called them. The woman was really surprised. LOL! She did NOT offer me anything, but is sending a label. So, I flat out asked if I could keep one and she said sure, absolutely. Makes me think I could have kept them all! LOL! But, no, I'm glad I called. Rio has always been good to me.

But, no, I'm glad I called. Rio has always been good to me. You did the right thing. Really. I would have contacted them to return the items. Same thing happened with an Amazon purchase I made. I ordered a single item at the cost of what a single item would be, and they sent me a case for that same price. Error in the listing and pricing. There was no way for them to rectify it because it was a faulty listing, so I was told to hang onto all of them. I offered some of the items here, and Jean rockpickerforever got one sent to her for free (Coleman Lantern stuff).

Yes you did, aDave , and I thank you! It did get it installed in the stove, we just have not camped sans trailer since then, so have not needed to use it. But it is ready to use! Sharing them with others a great way to make something good out of their screwup, whether they were even aware of it or not. You did good, too, Dave.

I come from a work environment where lockers could be left unlocked, wallets could be left out in the open, and cash could be left out - without issue. Heck, I just took an air hose fitting back to Harbor Freight that I accidentally pocketed as I was test fitting items that I brought against what they had in the store. With the shuffle of fittings, I didn't realize I put a new item in my pocket. Cashier was actually blown away that I returned a $5 item. It is actually quite fulfilling when I correct an overage mistake that was originally made in my favor. It works the same way when a cashier hands me back bills that I accidentally overpaid. Kudos to them as well.

When I was about 20 years old, I misplaced my wallet in a public place. Had $900 cash in it for rent and my month's cash. Long story short, I was able to recover it, with the cash. The woman who found it was around 40, working what was probably minimum wage or slightly above. She absolutely, categorically refused my attempts to give her something in gratitude for saving my bacon. Completely changed my attitude about people and those types of situations. Several times overy the last 3 and a half decades I have been on the other end of situations like that.
Doing the right thing is always doing the right thing. Completely agree with your decision.

Rockjunquie, I agree that the right thing to do was to notify the company about the error and ask for a recommendation. My belief is that what goes around comes around and honesty is always the best policy in the end.

Today I got a smog check on my truck. Passed BTW!
Dude did a math error and undercharged by $8.75. I said, "hey! You did a math error in my favor for $8.75". He said "awwww crud. Not worth my time to fix it. You been coming here since I opened a long time ago. Call it a good guy discount, this time..."
