Very nice John..I have a bunch of crystal too and know of no way to seperate them out without breaking them up. Best to leave those alone and go get yourself some smaller ones or single ones....

i think im gonna just buy some of that oxlic stuff and let the whole thing soak in a bucket for acouple weeks see if they come up clear ,, the guy said they where quartz crystals--- it is a nice piece theres a ton of little ones around the big ones it would be a shame to bust them all up tryin to get the big ones out

i think im gonna just buy some of that oxlic stuff and let the whole thing soak in a bucket I think that's a good idea. That is such a nice piece, it would sure be a shame to bust it up. Let that sucker soak a while and see what it looks like. Went to the bead shop today and she had a bunch of really nice crystals. I was tempted to buy a couple, but resisted - only because I spent way too much at the rock shop! llana

Hey John, that's pretty cool, I'd leave it like that too. If you clean it up, let us see pics again ok?

I guess I'm just evil. I'd get a chisel and go to town on them. But (sigh) the acid is the best idea.

They definitely cannot be broken apart without destroying them. Crystals are very brittle and will just shatter. They are actually growing in the matrix, not just surrounded by it. I have piles of quartz with crystal growing in them, both tiny and large. That is really a neat looking specimen. I'd definitly go with the oxolic acid and just clean it up. I can't remember how long you're supposed to soak, but I do remember it help's to start in warm water and put in sun to keep it warm while you're soaking. Do you know where this crystal comes from? Is it Arkansas crystal? Trish
