Hi gang, im new to cutting cabs and have some varicite and i know its soft (4.5 mohs) . What type polish are you getting good results with. I have diamond paste 14k and 50k and cerium ox. and the appropriate pads and discs for them.

I have great results with 50,000 diamond paste on canvas. Not a lot of pressure and do not let it heat. I do not know what variety of material you are trying to polish and the recipe could be different for what you are cutting. I am working with untreated Nevada stone that is a quality stock. It varies a bit but tends toward a 5 or 5.5 mohs...

I cut a lot of it. Try Zam on a muslin buff if diamond to 3K or 8K doesn't do the job for you.

If your vasiscite has a lot of matrix just be careful of undercutting. Try not too use anything too soft on it- like a felt wheel with paste. Go lightly on the Nova wheels unless they are worn. I have taken mine to 50k on novas. Zam, as mentioned, is great for soft stones.
