Here are some pics of our filed trip this week-end. The first is Lori my wife and Jake one of my sons: Next is some topaz we found (the color is lost due to ultraviolet light exposure - radiation would restore it): Here is a bucket of Apache Tears we found near by: And finally some rhyolite (sp?) from the Mountain - gonna try playing with it to see if it polishes( ): Thanks for looking! Jeff

Stuff looks good. Seems you found all the little hiding places. Did you manage to find and Jasper?

Sadly no - we didn't have time to look - but Lori - my wife is already planning our nest trip down there (3 weeks) - now that is a miracle (I've always had to work her up to it and even then listen to complaints ) I'm rather tickles to hear the opposite Jeff - have to try for jasper time then - won't need more apache tears so ...

Jeff-
Nice to hear you picked up some goodies. Looks like the weather was PERFECT. Yeah, you picked a good time to take the wife. They always like it better if it's not 110 degrees. My wife is excited about our trip back down to Green River and Moab this coming weekend.
Well, thanks for posting. Sorry to hear you didn't collect on the beryls or garnets.
take care, Gaetz

Thanks all, It was a fun trip, and I was shocked later when my Wife said, "Lets go back down before it's too hot and the flies are out." last night (wheee!) We're now planning on the last week-end of the month, see what happens (and the weather in April can be fickle here).

Had the same thing with my wife. So thought I & the kids were nuts collecting rocks. As soon as she saw the first batch come out of course, she changed her mind.
We enjoy camping & collecting all over the state. How tent will travel.

Rhyolite polishes very well as it is quite a hard rock. The ones I find are at the beach and already quite smooth. some are ready for the 600 grit. so smooth.
great find you have and great place to find rock.
good luck on your next trip.

have you done apache tears before? they are a little tricky but well worth the effort.

Jeff,
The topaz crystals are nice, even without the color. Roughly how big are they?

The largest is only about 1/3 of an inch long and nearly a quarter wide. The largest found that day was about a 1/3 wide by almost an inch long. We're going back at the end of the month to try again Jeff
