Computer crashed again. Silly me, trying to post. These are those pesky rubies and sapphires I've worked on and off for more than a year. Some of them do have a polish, though how visible it is, I don't know. Those that did polish, are pretty impressive. Thanks for looking!

Is that orange one a ruby? Love the color!
Don't give up on the ones that didn't polish.
Just a thought....Have you tried 1000 - 1200 grit before prepolish?

That orange one. Giggle. It was obviously in a batch of ruby/saph or emerald rough. I kept all that stuff together, even the improbable ones like that. I am clueless what it is, and to tell you the truth, it had been hanging around for so long I didn't even notice it any more! Alice, I have tried every conceivable grit and polish that you can reasonably imagine, plus a few that you wouldn't.

You have some great rubies and sapphires there, they are going to polish up nicely. Tami

Congratulations, I think that is the first batch of tumbled-round rubies/saphs I've seen on this board! I bet they were "on" for a good part of that year to get them so rounded! I can't really tell from the pics how well they polished. Must take a long time in each stage...how long did you leave them in the various stages past coarse grind?

Seems like these pups have been rounded forever. It's probably been 6 to 9 months since I last worked them -- when this batch came out I was discouraged. I need to figure out how to pick up the polish. Some actually are polished, but, shiny doesn't always relate to "pretty," because if the color is nothing, then, .... There are some on the big tray that are polished, certainly after this batch I had more polished than ever before. Right now I'm throwing back other ones that were not in the photos, I am throwing them in with the MO rock, which strangely enough has always been more successful that exclusively ruby tumbles. I had several polish last week in a MO batch -- go figure. Some are in polish now. We shall see. These guys have seriously been ground so much for so long in barrels and vibe that I have long since lost track. More importantly for our purposes, I have even tried diamond. I wish I had better news. pup

Hi Pup , You have a nice collection of rocks there . Don't feel too disappointed by the shine of the sapphires. I have found 2 very nice ones here on a beach and tried to tumblepolish them without the wished for result being achieved. I showed them last saturday to 2 elder members of our rockhoundclub and they told me that you cannot tumble polish them with silicon grit. Only diamond will do that as sapphire is very hard. I must admit that they have not changed shape or size while I tried it. Here are 2 pics of my sapphires. Jack

Hey Pup,
Boy, you sure have some fantastic photo's up ... man, those are great!
I will hopefully be getting a couple of replacement blades for my saws this week and I will start in on a couple of pieces and see what comes of them ... definitely looks like some potential ;D
Enjoy,
John
