Manhattan Lace Agate! Wow there is a material you don't see every day - or ever.
Knew what it was before I even saw the name and I'm sure my eyes got all bugged out.
Tommy had one on his Etsy site a couple years back that was drop dead gorgeous and I kicked myself for a couple months after it sold for not snatching it up. Not that I know what I would do with a tiny cab other than lose it!
The Moroccan may be the prettiest in the bunch but that 2nd Manhattan Lace steals the show.

Great job on all of those
The Manhattan is a new one for me, and reminded me of a slab I have

Hey Ali, some others, maybe silver lace and Missouri agate may look KINDA similar, maybe others as well.
From what Mel told me the location is extinct. Can't recall whether this site is the one now covered by a reservoir or the one with a college build on the site. It's in my notes somewhere.
Maybe folks are still finding it nearby to the original collection site?? I dunno ...

I've gotten a lot of feedback on some of the cabs I've made that all came from a big 15 lb lot of older odds and ends from the same seller - mineralwise - on Ebay. I love his stuff! I have them priced in the shop at $36 for the smaller 38mm and $38 for the 50mm, should I go up? It includes shipping, It's a great material to work with but very unfortunately absorbs sharpie and I ruined some of it a few months ago I think I have one more piece to work with.

I'm the last person here to ask about cab pricing. Maybe Tommy or others can help there. If it is an extinct location I have no idea what that adds to the value. Kinda figure most folks that buy cabs probably do so based on visual appeal more than what the material is?

Beautiful cabs Julie! I am quite particular to the Manhattan Mine material - it's very near and dear to me not just from it being a local Napa valley material but as captbob alluded to the location where it was found literally does not exist anymore. It's my understanding that the mine where they found it later became completely removed as part of a large open pit gold mine - and that gold mine pit is now cleaned up and is a lake owned by Cal Berkeley. I'm literally running out the door for work but I'll post again later or tomorrow some of my thoughts on the value of the cab/material.

I believe all three of the types of Fordite that I sell is much newer than the original material. There is a great website fordite.com that has a great back story and images of the original material but for some reason I can't pull it up today. The older material has FAR less white/silver banding than what is generally seen in the newer stuff. I have three types for sale in my shop. I'll definitely google the black dino bone, is there a way you could photograph that page and post it? Our library system does not carry those publications.

Ask if they have inter library loan any book in the system you can order from them it could come from any state or any college and may take a week to get but it's well worth it

That's a good idea. I used to work for the local library system here, loved it! Sometimes you can even get dvds on cabbing that's a good way to pick up new tips and modify them to what works best for you. Basic cabochon cutting (is ok) By Michael Boyd
