Is anyone else experiencing this? Or does my computer have a virus that was not caught?
I must close the RTH Forum window, when I used to leave it open. It takes about 10 minutes to load. Many Amazon tracking cookies appear. Usually about 6.
The same happens when I click on any specific topic.
5 minutes to load any topic or PM's I want to read.
Thank you

Hi Beth, sorry you're having trouble. Here at my computer the site is running fast as usual with no signs of trouble. Maybe try closing everything and rebooting your computer? I don't think it's a trackers issue but I personally run three different tracker blocker extensions on chrome including DuckDuckGo, Ghostery, and AdBlockPlus. All three of these programs are reporting only four of the usual trackers blocked. The Google, Tynt, and Viglink come from the Proboards forum software. The Amazon trackers come from our Amazon banners and participation in the Amazon Affiliates program. Anytime our wonderful Amazon shopping members begin their Amazon purchasing by first clicking on our banner or affiliate link, a small portion of their purchase dollars is directed back to the board. Said commissions go to help cover hosting expenses and our "ad free" subscription.

I use GOogle Chrome & your site is being blocked as a NON SECURE site for sure. I get a warning every time I log in and sometimes it won't allow me to visit the site. So whatever you're doing, I have no doubt it's causing a drop in traffic. I'm looking right now at the red triangle in the URL line that says "Not secure."
I don't know for sure what you're trying to say, but putting cookies to track people on a hobby site is probably a red flag. Although I think it's OK to have one affiliate link to Amazon, multiple affiliate links are also a red flag? Pretty sure?

I'm looking right now at the red triangle in the URL line that says "Not secure." The "not secure" warnings on some browsers are being triggered by the lack of an SSL certificate. These certificates have previously been mostly used for sites that have buy or sell links for which the little "lock" icon should be shown. Last year, Google decided to default its Chrome browser to warn on any website that is accessed via http: (rather than the https: protocol), and thus the warnings. The SSL certificates cost money and time to implement. There are some free SSL certificates out there, but they are a hassle to implement and maintain for something like a discussion forum, IMO.

I am still trying to determine how to set my security settings to resolve this. Now getting a pop up warning at times, asking if I want to proceed. Need to reboot computer several times per day. That takes about 30 minutes. Sometimes when at RTH and other sights, the computer locks up. About a week ago, I got a notice when loading MS Word, that my "new" security settings were being applied. Have had problems ever since. I had not changed my security settings, nor downloaded any software or system updates. RTH is not putting the cookies on, but Amazon and ProBoards are, correct? TommyI think the Amazon affiliate program is great for RTH.

I do not have phone internet access, unless an emergency. Only using a 2017 computer that is updated.

Took about 6 hours, but I think I partially figured it out, with a little help. My MS 365 account is incompatible with some Amazon tracking cookies and other tracking cookies. I always had one personal Word document open, as I used it daily. When I would access the open document, it took me about 15 minutes to access it. Then about 5 minutes/character I needed to type.
This was bogging down the system memory, so everything else took much longer. MS told me to just not have a MS document open at the same time as a Google Chrome web page. Kinda tough, as I often copy/paste items from web pages to Word. This AM tried opening and closing both web pages and Word. It only took about 5 minutes to open a Chrome page. Copied what I wanted to save. Another 5 minutes to open Word. Then could paste, save the Word doc. Open Chrome web browser again.
It is a pain. I am required by work to have instant access to email at all times. Also had several other web pages open in the past that I checked often.
This means limited access to all web pages I frequent. I do not want to clear all cookies each time I visit a web page, as I have many passwords stored on my computer. Clearing everything would mean I would need to type all in each time I need access. I cannot remember the 50+ passwords I have for various accounts, as all are unique.
But at least I have an answer. Not what I had hoped for.

New development. MS told me that the Office 365 was also incompatible with the Photo Shop Elements Version I am using, my printer software and having Flash player installed. I need the PSE. I need the printer software. It is a 2019 printer. I need Flash Player for the NWS Radar and the special Storm Spotter Radar.
The fix is that MS will sell me a stand alone software package of MS Office Suite for a special discount of $240.00. This is for download. A CD/DVD version could be sent for only $275.00. There would be automatic upgrades downloaded for additional charges. The representative was unable to tell me what the upgrade charges would be, but they would be deducted from my checking account. This is due to all the problems I was having. Checked and anyone can purchase the same software for $249.99.
Whatta deal!

That MS person is just trying to make a sale, presumably on commission. I wouldn't sign up for Office 365 or Office Suite or any other program that took unknown automatic charges from my account. I use Photoshop and Affinity a lot, I have printer and other device software, and I don't think not having MS Office Suites software interferes with my ability to manipulate photos or use any other software in the slightest.
IMO-- Our problem with RTH is coming from THIS website and/our Google Chrome. I suspect even if you paid for Office Suite, you'd still be faced with the same problem. Because I don't see the relevance of any of this to our ability to easily sign into RTH. I think somebody at MS just hopped on an excuse to pitch you an expensive subscription that nobody really needs.

Unless you need Microsoft Office products for some specific reason Libreoffice is a viable free option. I have used it for many years.

I have used the free OpenOffice for many years. www.openoffice.org/ I never use MS products unless I have to, like my OS. (Only because I don't want to use Linux.) If you have Gmail, you can keep a tab open and not mess with Outlook.
I don't know a thing about any issues with the site here. I don't have any problems. I block cookies and ads on nearly every site.
I do, however, have a problem recently of not being able to see pics posted from Taptalk, though. ( MsAli)
Tommy, has anything changed on the backend?

A former Geek Squad friend told me what to do about the issues. Just need to find time to do it. In the mean time, if I do not have Office programs or PSE open the same time as RTH, it is working.

Right this very moment, I do not have Photoshop, Open Office, or any other programs open right now other than Google Chrome. I still had a lot of trouble getting logged in, and I still got a warning. I can read without logging in, but then I can't easily find the discussions I'm involved in because I don't have access to my notifications.

Do you need a fancy word processor like that , can't you use something simple like NotePad ? And another vote for all the applications in free OpenOffice .

I use Word, Excel and Publisher often. All for my business, other work and groups I volunteer with.
The fix was to close all MS Office publications before using Chrome. Then block the Amazon ad on the RTH forum. Then not allow any Utube videos to appear on posts here or elsewhere. Block all tracking cookies that might pop up on posts others make on RTH.
For some reason Utube videos on Facebook do not cause problems unless I click on them. They lock up my computer.
Some other videos also lock up computer if I click on them. So, cannot watch any videos posted here. My video card is fine. All other computer things are updated.
Geek Squad gave me the recommendations. They are working, but a pain.

I got off MS based hardware a few years ago and traded to Apple MacBook. No issues. I still run MS Office, as I need it for work. One suggestion if you are still having problems is to go into settings and cleanup your computer. I would go directly into Chrome and "clear browsing data". I would go into programs and remove the ones that are are not used. I would check what applications are in startup and remove the ones that automatically launch themselves that I don't need. There is no reason things are taking 5 minutes to launch.

I have been using Google Chrome for a few weeks and seem to be experience hyperlinking in the body of an RTH post. They have not caused any problems. Probably an issue with my MacBook Pro settings but thought I would mention it here. Example: And the "Not Secure" message on G-Chrome. Again, perhaps my settings:
