Went out Saturday (was gorgeous) and Sunday (it poured) but had a great time both days. I found some really nice banded jasper, some of the nicest red I've seen. This first one is about 7" x 5" x 4" ... sorry forgot the tape. It's also got some quartz in it but not much. Close-up, check the white rectangle, really tight bands in it. This next one is really nice too, red jasper and hematite with a splash of quartz. This one is about 3 inches on each side. This is just a group pic of some of the red jasper I found, one nice piece of yellow banded. This one is really cool, the pic isn't too good but it's just swirling with shades of red and quartz. I'm going to put the top two on ebay since I can't slab them and think they are too nice to whack. Got more, will post a second thread. Thanks for looking. Cher

Cher-
Hey, congrats on the great find. That stuff is really neat. So do you find this on the "old Iron Range" or do you have to travel to pick it up?
I really like the deep reds....man I'm a sucker for reds!!!!

I'm a sucker for reds too but they really aren't easy to find. Found this stuff about 25 miles from home so it wasn't too far to travel. Depending on the area, the reds will tend toward more of a purple-red or orange-red. I'm hoping to go back to this pit again, it's got some of the cleanest red I've seen but didn't find any lakers in this place.

Great looking rocks! They already have more shine than most of mine do out of polish. Trish

Very nice Cher. They look like they'll take a nice shine. I used to be a sucker for "reds", but I really wasn't one for downers (just kidding)

Love that banded Jasper, probably my favorite local rock. (I haven't found a really good location for the Lakers yet, maybe this year) I find a good amount in my driveway gravel, but it's usually small and very fractured. Darn rock crushing plant must but breaking up some nice large chunks and ruining them!
I do have a huge one that's a permanent landscape rock. It's kind of big so it's staying put. It's about 3 ft by 1.5 ft, my husband dragged it in from somewhere, at least it's displayed right by the house.
They do take a very nice shine, but I know you've polished some already.

I haven't really thought about a price yet, have to babysit the grandkids all week so probably won't get going on that until Friday or Saturday. I need to weigh them first and see what the cost of shipping would be on each piece or combined. Also need to redo the pics with the tape measure.
At any rate, if a member here is interested, drop me a pm, if I get more than one request, I'll do a private auction. I would much rather see it go to someone here than to someone I don't even know.

Really, it is so true about how hard it is to find red. We have all kinds of jasper but red is in the minority.
This weekend there was a rock show and I got to handle a lot of Lakers of various sizes and qualities. This was the first time I'd seen so many or been able to touch them and look closely. Now I see what all the excitement is about! They are supposedly not so unusual in this area, but I haven't yet gone to the site that is most known for them.

Oooo Puppie, good for you. Are you going to go check it out? Is it far for you to travel? You're so right about the reds, I don't find a lot of really good red up here either, most of it has a purple cast to it so I was pretty excited when I found these.
