Just got back from the Green River/Moab, Utah area. We went down there to go 4wheeling, but I turned it into a huge rock party. Every stop we made, the kids would bring me this rock and that. Most of them were "leaverites" but one hunk was an absolute find.
I only had so much room for rocks and will be better prepared next time. I'll take a huge "actionpack" container to strap onto the front of the 4wheeler and 1 for the back. My daughter and I abandoned the group and slowly made our way back to the head of the canyon and stopped all along the way. I was so desperate to find some arrowheads, but no dice. But we collected all we could and left a whole canyon of stuff for later.
Here are the pictures of agate/jasper/flint/chert and other goodies.
Pict 1: Tote of goodies submerged in water. Most rocks are golf ball to baseball sized.
Pict 2: Look closely for the green glass..possibly variscite??? This is a cool slab about 3 inches by 4 inches. If someone has a flat lap and would like to trade some of the rocks I've recently found for a ride on the flat lap let me know. I really think this has some potential and would like to have someone work on it. The other side is much better.
Pict 3: Just a handful. My daughter loved the zebra eye!
Pict 4: Another handful.
Pict 5: Much larger hunks about the size of softballs and footballs.
Pict 6: The cool specimen my neice found for me....I think it's great!!!!
Well now that I've got some big hunks, I really see the value of a saw. My wife even said, "well can't your Dewalt chop saw work on those stones????" Well, maybe someday I'll invest in a saw.
Thanks for looking and if anyone wants to do some trade labor PM me and we'll work something out.
