Anyone have any suggestions on feed for a wild mallard duck, she has a nest with eggs right behind my garden. She sets all day, night and only leaves the nest early in the morning to feed elsewhere then takes her morning swim I tossed out some whole kernel sweet corn this morning she didn’t seam the least bit interested in it. I Don’t want to buy a 50 pound bag of feed either for 1 duck that may or may not eat the food Here she is after her swim then flys back to her nest the other pics were very blurry in flight Lift off to the nest from setting to flight in less then a second or one pic to the next The bird feeder post broke under the weight of a huge Pileated woodpecker the perch broke before any pictures were taken

Mama knows what she's doing. I'd just leave her be. She's probably going somewhere to eat vegetation in a pond or lake and look for bugs and worms. You could put out some mealy worms for her if you want to. Just don't feed her bread.

The Problems With Feeding Duckswww.wildlifecenter.org/problem-feeding-ducks#:~:text=Wild%20ducks%20and%20geese%20feed,or%20goose%20needs%20to%20survive. What You Can Do"Allowing ducks and geese to find their own wild, nutritionally balanced diet is best – for the health of waterfowl and the surrounding environment. For those who would like to slowly stop feeding waterfowl: the least problematic foods mimic the waterfowl’s natural diet – greens and insects. Chopped up greens [kale, collards, dandelions (only from pesticide-free yards)] are more nutritious than any junk food, including corn. Ducks and geese eat insects too -- so a special treat of mealworms or freeze-dried crickets would also likely be enjoyed! But the bottom line is that wild ducks and geese should be able to find plenty of food on their own – so if you can resist the temptation to feed, simply pack your binoculars and camera and enjoy watching the birds." dreamrocks

Thank you both for the input I know your right about not feeding ducks or geese and especially no bread at all It’s really another reason Like I posted she has nested right behind my garden in the swamp she made a nest like a muskrat would and sheltered its very well out of site it really blends in Why I was asking about any food was to lure her away from my neighbors pool every morning the duck takes a dip in the pool my neighbor she hates that a duck is swimming in her pool every morning it’s not open yet for people only 🦆 Maybe now she understands why covering a pool in the winter is a very good thing She was talked into not putting a cover on it’s been covered every winter for 12 years never any ducks there is a small pond a little ways from here and another small pond behind another neighbors house there’s plenty of food Thank you again hummingbirdstones RickB

knave What did you think of the quarry? Last time I was there it was great. A few signs of people gathering pipe stone, but no major destruction.

The bluebirds fledged and left their nest late yesterday. I don't know how many we had but the parents are still flying around getting insects for the young ones. They used the same box two years in a row. Old photo.

A Dandelion growing in my yard. In the area that my wife and I live, it's outside of the "city" and no one in our area has a lawn...they have yards filled with prairie grass. It looks nice when it's green, but it's not the plush "upscale" lawns most people crave. Every year, our lawn becomes a field of yellow. I don't mind it, in fact I really like the color in the yard. Plus, our neighbors have bee hives, so the dandelions are food for the honey-makers.

They have been having a field day pollinating the flowers on my citrus trees and avocado tree, hence, making for a good crop of them all next year! If we have some strong winds after the avo fruits set, we get a lot of pea-sized blow downs. When I see the quantity on the ground, I think, "Oh, no, I'm not going to have very many avos this year. " But when the time comes, I still have many. In fact, if I didn't lose a bunch of them, the tree would be overloaded, possibly breaking branches. 'dule, did you know that dandelion leaves are quite edible? You can make salads with them, make tea with them, etc. Many uses! And yes, the bees like them, too.
