It's kind of the opposite here in SoCal. We had some rain over the winter, but way below average. Supposed to have over a quarter inch this month, but so far only a trace. It was green during late winter and spring, but now all the wild (non-irrigated) areas are already dying, and turning brown. Bad for fires, but could have been lot worse - if more vegetation had grown, there'd be more fuel for fires. You take the good with the bad. Ah if only we could do a bit of a trade. I would gladly give you some precipitation for some of that sunshine................particularly November through March.

We have several types. It's cool how the tips uncurl as they grow in the Spring time. Here's another one from the backyard jungle. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/drqxosbjp/image/upload/v1622164100/wjn0hpvokrufyhebpxy9.jpg)

I think it was Emeril I saw use them in something back when on his TV show.

Just wondering because I know the Fiddleheads are edible. I think it was Emeril I saw use them in something back when on his TV show. I think that the first pic is a Deer Fern and the second is a Sword Fern. Years ago I was told that the Bracken Ferns were toxic for livestock to eat.

The fiddle backs are edible when young. The ferns are slimy and the taste is good. We have a carpet of them here on the McKenzie and only eat hem a couple times a year. I don't have a good pic.

The second one might be a fiddle head. They have a tan, paper like coating when young. Taste amazing. Some restaurants around here use them. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/fernwood/image/upload/v1622193114/uckyy9ulxuxvry10ghpp.jpg)

These are not true Fiddleheads. They have a white, fuzz coating. The fuzz makes it difficult to process them. These grow next to my house.

Photos with some stories. I had picked up my plants from the local greenhouse a couple weeks ago. Did not have time to establish the new flower/herb beds and plant. It was a good thing, as there is frost on the ground this AM. Supposed to be more tomorrow AM. I brought the plants inside yesterday. Here is a beautiful, yellow Columbine. I have always loved Columbines. Some I had purchased or transplanted died last year. This year I purchased 5 Columbine plants in a variety of colors. Found some wild ones to transplant in my woods. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/fernwood/image/upload/v1622200205/wptqgxqwa9c7dbu3eaqe.jpg) One of my G-Grandma’s favorite flowers were Sweet Williams. Her husband was named William. My Mom told me the story of why there were so many Sweet Williams around the home place. My G-Grandma always called her Husband Will, as did most others. She referred to him as her “Sweet Will”. One year, a neighbor brought over a bunch of Sweet William plants. They thought it was fitting. My G-Grandma loved them. Over the years, the different colors crossed and multiplied. My G-Grandma was always sharing her “Sweet Will” plants with others. Some of the plants I had purchased for my daughter. When I dropped hers off, she wanted to see what else I had purchased. When she saw the Sweet Williams, she was very emotional. Said they were her Grandma’s (my Mom’s) favorite flower. I told her the story of the “Sweet Will” plants. She told me to take good care of them and share some with her in the future. My daughter also loved the Columbines. Thought they would be great for Hummingbirds and Honey Bees. Anyways, here are some of the “Sweet Will” plants. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/fernwood/image/upload/v1622200225/l1qw7g13rv52tdtiptyw.jpg) ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/fernwood/image/upload/v1622200245/yjizwvkqbshc5axipqqu.jpg) Hope you like the stories and the plants. I hope to get everything planted next week.

Thanks jasoninsd The other Columbines are blue, white, dark rose + pink. The ones I want to transplant are traditional red/orange with yellow centers.

View from one side of mezzanine seating at work. Just a few of the barrels of beer we are aging. ![](http://res.cloudinary.com/fernwood/image/upload/v1622203720/vm5rvgh14nbwb9g71k53.jpg) This seating is about 20' above main floor seating. I was a chicken, and would not go up there until side rails were installed. I had to sweep and mop the mezzanine a few days ago, after the side rails were installed.

Spruce IPA's are amazing. Only one small brewery near me brews them. Noticed you placed a great find in the landscape rocks in front of the crowler.
