Cat has hyperthyroidism. Been on meds about 3 months, but not doing any better. Still losing weight. Took him in yesterday. Thyroid is doing fine... but his kidneys are failing. He has moderate to severe failure. So, he gets a new, fancy, (expensive) diet and we hope for the best. We took him in as a stray, so every day of extra life is a bonus for him. We'll keep him happy. He's a good cat. Sorry to here that, Tela. Pets definitely are definitely part of the family, hopefully things go as well as they can...

Cat has been a really good pet. I was so proud of him at the vet. He's such a good boy. He used to be a big cat, but he is withering away now. Sad.

We have an old stray that we took in probably 15 years or so also. He's thin now, getting old- but still gets feisty once in a while and lets you know it.

Some of his shrinkage is due to age, but kidney failure will make them get thin, too. Luckily, he really likes his new food. Now, we just have to keep the other cat out of it.

It's always hard when a friend gets old.
My last cat also had kidney failure, and also had body shrinkage. She was on an oral liquid medication that had to be refrigerated, came from a pharmacy in AZ. It bought her about six months of life before it was time to take her in and say goodbye.
Wendy as a baby kitten (sorry for crummy photo)
Wendy and her dog Shadow
Wendy on the chair dogs used in the desert
She lived a long and happy life. I got her on the day she was born (her mom abandoned her), bottle fed her, the whole works, she died at 22 years.

Awww, how cute.
Apparently, cats are prone to kidney failure. I never knew that. We just want to keep him as comfortable as possible. Just in the last 6 months, he has really slowed down a lot. I knew something was wrong. He's just not his old self.
Thanks for sharing with me, Jean.

Took a trip out to Teepee Canyon today. I'll post a couple pictures in the Teepee thread. However, after I was done hounding, I took a drive through the Black Hills. Ran across this cave, but didn't inspect. No tracks going in or out thankfully.

That interesting jase do your research then explore I was coming down Interstate 87 the Beeeline highway from Payson to PhX Had driven that stretch of road innumerable times in the past. A decade or so ago- AZ did a major hiway reconstruction. They made that stretch of road (at least 50 miles) a divided 2 lane hiway. It was my first time driving it. Recognized a lot of the same landmarks and few that no longer exist. Like the famous Frog rock. Not the other famous Frog rock up on Yarnell. This Frog rock was a personal Peace Frog Anyway this & that is a long story ha So I’m zipping along and lo & behold I have to pee! Imagine that I see an off ramp and pull off the highway into this little dirt cul-de-sac w/ this culvert Now I’m back there all by my lonesome and the culvert gave me pause Ya knohs.... to many horror movies. I walked in a little ways in- hesitate- get back in the Infiniti. Did I mention its got new boots? So to back out was going to be difficult. Get the car hung up --or some other freaking calamity. So I figured I drive through the tunnel. It was strange but went well. I’m on the other side and there the road!! But then the light of m hs went on ! That culvert is an emergency turnaround for Police to access the other side of the highway. If I get on the road there I’d be going in the opposite direction! Be another 60 miles before I could turn around So I had to brave driving back through the culvert Anyway I’m here to tell the tale So all well… mostly

This Frog rock was a personal Peace Frog mohs , I never saw the personal peace frog, and now I guess I never will since it is gone But this is the famous rock frog coming down the hill from Yarnell.
Took this pic back April 30, 2004. Still there as far as I know. Have not been back to that part of AZ, or back up the mountain since.

I was head southbound The Frog was on northbound side so it may sill exist hopefully I'll be able to explore soon and the Frog Rock that I would always point out was huge boulder like the Yarnell just not painted altho I had thought to do that many times I also spotted a Fred FlintStone Car Rock but that another highway tale Thanks Again! and to all for the likes m hs

It's kind of the opposite here in SoCal. We had some rain over the winter, but way below average. Supposed to have over a quarter inch this month, but so far only a trace.
It was green during late winter and spring, but now all the wild (non-irrigated) areas are already dying, and turning brown. Bad for fires, but could have been lot worse - if more vegetation had grown, there'd be more fuel for fires. You take the good with the bad.
