After spending hours upon hours talking to myself, I'm posting a pic of something I've done. We have such talented folks here I'm afraid to have them look! When I grow up...I wanna be JUST like them! ;D I'm taking this piece to my silversmithing class (in October) and hopefully, I'll learn how to set it properly in a silver mount. I don't think I have the edge shaped correctly to set in silver, but have plenty of height/width to the piece that I think I can fix it if needed. ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________

I'm confirmed to go in October...they just have me on the waiting list for Aug. 15th? She said she'd get me in if they have any cancellations....I sure hope so. It would be really nice to take the class together. If not, maybe I can drive up on the tailgate day and go shopping with you! <grins>

nice stone, Emerald! you will probably be told what i was told about setting larger stones in silver (i've been taking a class here locally since January), start with a much smaller (and rounder) stone for practice. in fact, i am getting good practice on the grinder making smaller stones to set.
apparently (according to my instructor) it takes two torches to do larger pieces (over an inch in seam), but i'd like to get Doc's opinion on that one.
good luck with it, it's harder than it looks!

Hi Emerald, I don't know what you are talking about ... you have done a wonderful job with that stone ... it's gorgeous! I love Graveyard Plume Agate, I have a 28 pound chunk of it that I need to get to slabbing ... but, I have to do some maintenanxce to my 14" slab saw ... before I will be able to try that Gorgeous ... you should be proud of the cab. Ahh thanks! I do like it myself!
The piece I cut this from was really clean and free of fractures so it made a good "first attempt" Since then, it seems like I'm getting too much stuff with fractures in it. *sighs* Oh well...I'll keep plugging along!
