Awww Helen, that's so sad. I'm sorry it was so pretty too. Can you salvage either piece?

Actually, I'm wondering if I can't make a clean cut on either side of where it broke, reshape it, then line up the pieces to salvage it. Then make a silver mounting to fit the two pieces together. It's an interesting challenge. I'm still crying over it...I dropped it about 2 months ago.
When I dropped it, it skuffed it up too... It had as close to a glass finish as I had gotten so far...
NEVER....NEVER drop your favorite pieces on a stoneware floor. That floor is WORSE than concrete!

I got the chunk of rough on ebay. They said it was Moss Agate. Most of the stone has mottled green areas with some transparent areas that have tiny druzy sections. I have a few more pieces that I've cut and 2 more small chunks I should be able to get more slabs from, however, I don't think I'll get much more of the transparent areas within the slabs.
There are also some hard-to-see fractures in the rough, that break when I slab it...so the pieces seem to get too small to do much with other than make a tiny free-form cab.

All is not lost here...just make something out of both pieces....
Bummer it broke like that but....I am sure you can work something with it.

Hi Emerald , what a shame you had to drop it , but all is not lost. It appears to be a clean break. So why not glue it back together?
Just a thought

Ah shucks Em, that bites. I would suggest throwing sheets over the stone floor if that is your workspace. If you drop something, maybe it will bounce. I know when people start grinding and cabbing, they loose intrest in tumbling. But save things like that for the tumbler and give them a natural shape. Still soooo pretty ;D

Hi Emerald, Oh .. that is too bad ... what a gorgeous cab! It happens to all of us ... I think it is one of those learning curves that they are always talking about You can slavage it ... and if you are not happy with it ... it can always go into the tumbler. Looks like you have some nice cabbing skills going on there John

Em, that is so pretty! and so sad that it broke! But, I think you can work the separate pieces and they will be beautiful. Maybe a bit smaller than you originally planned, but still beautiful.

That is a bad thing to do, however, I really think you can salvage it, I would first try to glue it together and if that didn't work, there are many possibilities for the two pieces. Tami

The piece chipped along where it fractured and the chips were lost....probably in a jillion pieces. If you look at the top photo closely, it doesn't have a clean break. So, I think I'm going to try.....
Smoothing out the broken areas and epoxy a different stone there.... (maybe a lighter piece of the same stone...so it's a noticeable change) then reshape it. (Intarsia?) Spent part of the weekend reading as much as I could find on Intarsia. I also read the 2nd half of an intarsia santa article (October issue of Lapidary Journal). that helped alot! That should make it an even more interesting piece eh?
When I get around to fixing it, I'll post pictures as I attempt to repair it.
