My son was stationed at King's Bay sub base in GA when he was in. We used to go to a sleepy little town, Woodbine, a few miles down the road to visit the awesome river walk park. Just before you get there, there is a little antique store with this sign out front. (I first saw it abt 20 years ago, but it has been shared online a few times. I got this pic from a blog because I can't find my pic.)

Bob's Knob where there are more rocks than you could look at in a lifetime. Stopped and did the tour of the Alabama one year on the way to Gulf Shores. Quite a Ship. My first Agate collecting trip was a family vacation with my Mom and Dad over 50 years ago, we collected the Bob's Knob location while my Dad fished the lake.

Nice post captbob. I'm a Navy vet who appreciates a work of art like that battleship. My brother lives in North Dakota (southeast corner). Took these photos while we were out there 5 years ago. Oh yeah, last photo is petrified wood in the back of the Dodge Ram truck from a private ranch in the western part of the state. Telephone pole size light poles for size

Great thread, thanks RickBI love this picture we took in 2017 just several weeks after the Detwiler fire of which the fresh burn can be seen in the background. The old fellow sits in the truck all day and points the way to the Hornitos poppy jasper.

Hey we have a big cow like that at the Cowtown rodeo, which is in Salem county. Lol. Small world. Wish there were truckloads of petrified wood there too, but of course not. This is New Jersey.

Great pics by everybody! However, I had to look up the word “terrapin". Apparently, it comes from the Algonquian Indian word meaning “a little turtle" and describes turtles who spend their time in and out of water. However, "dead people's things" takes the cake.

I've always thought of a terrapin as a land living box turtle like they have in the state of Maryland and elsewhere. Here in South Carolina, along the coast, there are many sea turtles that cross those causeways to nest during the warmer months.

Ya gotta love it when the road ends in water. Found this recently at Eastman Lake in central CA while hunting chiastolite (crossrocks).

I thought about that too but it is literally a flooded road - the boat ramp is on the other side of the recreation area. We had ran out of daylight at that point and were just exploring so we drove right down to the water and let the dogs get wet a while.

I dug up a few more - Germany - on our way to Idar-Oberstein ... (giggle giggle) Self explanatory Every rockhound should make it a goal to see this sign in person at least once. Dramatic natural artwork in a road cut near Alturas CA (near Davis Creek obsidian beds) Natural "angel" in The Cove Palisades State Park, Oregon. We stayed here during our last trip to the Madras show. Someone decorated their fence with Wile.E Coyote - near Stoney Creek CA Last but not least a beautiful old truck near Reno NV. Definitely a work of art and it has been parked in a way to fully show off its rusty beauty.
