Good day, and long time no see.
It has been months since I had a chance to post, and since I have been busy creating more fledgling wire wrap efforts, I have a great deal of catch up to do. So, without any more blabber, lets get started.
P051 - Colorado River Agate Jelly Bean
This was a hard one. Using 26 gauge wire, these really small ones give me trouble. So much trouble that I messed up the first attempt at the bail. So, this attempt, I finished the top a bit differently than any other. Later I added a pair of 22 gauge links (kind of like chain mail links) to the top, so it could be worn with a necklace properly. This rock was also chubby. Round ones give me trouble too.
P052 - Anniversary Mine Agate Teardrop
Another tiny effort slightly larger than the last, this turns out to be one of my best and more flawless attempts. Unfortunately, I don't have a good picture of it. The stone is pretty with swirles of white streaming through it. My first try at adding square wire, twisted. One of my wife's favorite, being small, simple, elegant, shiny. Sorry about the picture.
P053 - Lavic Jasper Key chain #2
This funny shaped brecciated Jasper came together rather easily. I never knew what to do with larger, funny shaped rocks. And now I do. I'll just make key chains out of them. I think this is 21 gauge. I seem to like mixing gold colors and silver colors more and more now too.
P054 - Lavic Jasper Christmas Ornament #1
It's that time of year and I was thinking about Christmas gifts. So I thought I would try a pendant that looked like an ornament. Really. This is a larger one (about 3 inches across) wrapped in 20 gauge, round and square, gold and silver. I think I was able to capture the image of an ornament here. But this would turn out to be the last one I made. I have created other pendants for Christmas gifts this season so far.
P055 - Lavic Jasper Fat Bug
Well, I could not get a good picture of this one either. It was a gift and I was trying out new Copper wire. This is all 20 gauge, and it is SOFT. It is used by many in the local club, and it is ParaWire. And I still don't know if I like this stuff. It will mar very easily. Anyway, when I was done (new bail design that I am more comfortable with), it looked to me like a bug. Yuck! But, the gift was well received. She was a rock person, and knew it was Jasper! Impressive!
P056 - Lavic Jasper Skinny Bug
Done on the same day, using the same material and wire as the prior one. Same design on the bail. And this one looked a lot like a skinny bug. Yuck! These are medium sized rocks. This one is about 2 inches long. I like working with larger material and wire. It is hard to mess up.
P057 - Variscite Small Teardrop
Fresh off of my Tonopah Varascite mine tailings dig, I rendered out a couple of pieces on the grinder right away. I also found out that I don't have any way of polishing this stone. It is soft. (I have chromium oxide, cerium oxide and something called Linde "A" on the way now though). I has imperfections, but my wife wanted a new green pendant NOW, so I did not delay. The wrap is 21 gauge square solid sterling silver.
P058 - Green California Coast Chert Nightmare
A medium sized attempt, done in 20 gauge soft ParaWire. I love the colors of this poor rock. But the material is really not that high quality. I wrapped it anyway, and learned a big lesson when doing it. Do not put your binding wraps on the corners of your material. It gives it no stretch, and nothing to grab on to. I spent an extra hour trying to get the rock to live inside this wrap! It simply did not want to behave! I am only proud is saying that I did not have to resort to using glue. But she better not drop this one, and the rock will be free again! What a nightmare.
Well, that is about it for this batch. Thank you for stopping by and having a look!
