Finally got around to taking a pic of the amethyst my friend sent me. He sent me two quartz size zip-lock bags, one full of smaller pieces already partially tumbled, the other full of bigger pieces. Some of this is so dark purple it looks black. There are a few pretty big pieces that I'm not quite sure what to do with. Sure don't want to whack them so guess the only alternative is to tumble them till they are the size I want to work with. First pic is a crystal I found in there. Second is a group shot of the lot. Thanks for looking, Cher

When do you have time for amethyst? I thought you had a whole garage full of Lakers???? LOL!
Good luck w/ the amethyst and hope you're unthawing up there!

We're cooking today Gaetz, set a record high of 83°, 32nd day in a row that we've been above normal for temps, it's been amazing. Usually we're still waiting for the lakes to open up here when May arrives and I've seen times when fishing season opened and they were still frozen. We'll be back to normal by Wednesday (so they say) but that's still in the 50's so it's ok by me.

Those are beautiful. Looks like some would facet well. where did they come from? That is a beautiful purple. Not all washed out like some I got recently.

My friend lives in Alabama, I'm not sure though where he got them or even how long he's had them. He's 81 so it could have been awhile. I'll probably save a couple, maybe I'll be able to afford getting one faceted someday.

Wow, those are great! The darker the stone, the better the healing qulities. Take one of the dark ones and leave it outside under a full moon, then place it on what ails ya. Or put it under your pillow for good (somethimes inciteful) dreams.

Hey Cher, Hubby's staying at the Clarion over the next two weeks in Minn/St. Paul again for some training. I won't be able to go there this time, so I made him promise to go outside and look for a few bags of rocks for me. Though, I'm terrified, I forgot to show him what a laker looks like!
;D Sure hope he brings some back! For some reason I can't picture him in the parking lot looking at rock. He'll probably park the car next to the rock, look around, roll his eyes back, grimace and discreetly scoop up a handful of god knows what when noone is looking. *snickers*
Your Amethyst has beautiful color....I only have a few pieces that get anywhere near that dark.... Can't wait to see it finished!

Nice looking stones Cher. Alot nicer than any amyethst I've ever worked with. Was the spelling of "quartz size zip-lock bags" a slip of the mind? Have fun with your stones, and post finished pics.

LOL No Ed, it was quite deliberate ( I was trying to be "cute"). I wondered if anyone would notice and say anything. *smile*

I really like those. I am tumbling a couple lbs. of amethyst right now that I purchased from Rockshed.com, but they are more of a washed out lavender color:

Nothing wrong with lavendar, those are really pretty. Can't wait to see them finished. It will be awhile before these get in the tumbler, barrels are full, though I do have a lot of smaller pieces in one of them now.
