They're looking pretty good Dan & Son ! 1 - 3 more weeks of 60/90 should get you a nice rounded shape before you start on your 120/220.
Be sure to pull out any rocks your happy with shape wise any time during 60/90, and throw them back in at 120/220.

Alice hit the nail right on the head Dan & son. The rough cycle is the cycle that will usually make you or break you when you first start out. You havea nice head start there and a couple more weeks roughing and you and you son will have some nice Gems to show off when they're finished.
Keep up the good work and don't go to the next step until you are very satisfied with the results.

hi you guys your gonna have some real nice rocks when there done but i agree at least 2 more weeks in 60/90 maybe 3,, you wanna get all the rough and pointed edges rounded out befor you move on because all your shaping is done in the first stage startin with 220 all your realy doing is taking out scratches not much shapeing at all -- so when your rocks look like you want them to look finished (shape wise) then move them to 220 grit
you can take out what looks good to you and put on the side till the rest are finished --because some rocks will shape faster then others

Definitely a nice looking batch. I find it's easier to see if I check them over dry. Anything with chips, pits rough edges goes back into 60/90. Sometimes there's a few that are ready to move to the next step so those go in a container to wait until there's enough for the next load. Love the colors you have in there, it's going to be really pretty when it's all done.

dan you have a nice mixed group there. i like that tan striped one under the dalmation stone. what is that one?
i don't have a set # of weeks for 60/90. and i always have a 60/90 barrel tumbling (3 barrels at present on 60/90). when i recharge i go more by sense of feel than sight. if i can feel anything rough, they continue in 60/90. i pull the ones that are ready to move on and put them aside until i have enough to fill a 120/220 barrel to the proper level. then i add enough rough back to the 60/90 barrel to fill it back to the right right level, recharge it with grit and put it back on to tumble. i was right where you are on the 1st batch when i started ordering more tumblers, barrels, and rough rock to keep the process moving smoothly. i had moved on too fast and at the 3rd stage could see my mistake and had to go backwards when i was so ready to see a finished batch. my 2nd batch made it through before the 1st because of this.

Ditto's to the comments about plenty of time in 60/90. That's why it's nice to have a larger tumbler/more capacity for 60/90. Looking Good!

I'd go ahead and pull out most of those nicely rounded quartz crystals. There is no sense and letting them get excessively banged around if they are more or less rounded. They will shape a little bit more in the 220 too.
