It's definitely an obsession. If it were an addiction, you would be selling your mother's soul for more.  That being said, it's a very powerful obsession and one that doesn't fade much with time. My DH does modeling. He thanks me (for some reason) for letting him indulge in his hobby. I tell him, "At least I know where you are. You're not out in some sleazy bar." LOL. Both hobbies are pretty safe and keep us home and out of trouble. I dearly love my hobby time with my husband. We play our music, fill our coffee mugs and chat over rocks and wire, and plastic and glue.
I'm gonna be childless again soon. YAY! It'll be just like the old days. No interruptions, no mealtime schedules, no kid emergencies, etc. We can do hobbies all we want- Time and weather permitting.
Fixation, compulsion, craving, enslavement, weakness, jones, etc.
The adjective obsessed is often used to simply mean "very interested," but when someone is truly obsessed, their interest has become compulsive, and they've begun to lose control over it.
Oh, yeah! And if you regularly become addicted to things, you probably have an addictive personality.
An addictive personality refers to a hypothesized set of personality traits that make an individual predisposed to developing addictions. This hypothesis states that there may be common personality traits observable in people suffering from addiction.
Does not have to be drugs, lol. But I think the screen name rockjunquie pretty much says it all! Not poking fun, showing you some solidarity, lol. We are all there! Addiction is a disease.

Yes that is an Aussie Agate Creek agate, It's really only a small field but the agates are very different all over it, this one is from Bald Hill. We had a good spot when we dug there.
