12 degrees here today, I spent my lunch hour cabbing this sweet agate in an unheated garage. I suppose it doesn't matter if you call it addicted or obsessed, as long as I'm doing something I love, right? I decided to work my "old stock"- which for me is a year, this came from last year's traveling rock box. I wish I knew who to thank for it, it's a beautiful stone. And I can't remember which kind of agate it is, which isn't unusual for me. Thanks for looking!

For me it's an addiction AND an obsession! Mostly I think of it as an obsession but when I can't take break from dremel work and messing with rocks for a few days to let my extremely dried out and cracked hands heal a bit then I feel theres an addiction aspect to it lol. But I figure unless it's crack rocks I'm addicted to i dont need to worry. Cant imagine 12 degrees tho... btw very nice looking piece!

I must be addicted, then, the tips of my thumbs are cracked and sore- but that's what bandaids are for, to protect them from the dremel. And thanks!

The hobby is addicting but I like to be somewhat comfortable when I work. 60 degrees is my minimum when I grind. I have expanded the hobby to include buying material, slabbing, design, trim saw, grinding, polishing, photography and selling. Grinding and polishing are weather dependent. The earliest I might be able to cab is Sunday.

That's a pretty cab, Mike. I don't know if it's an addiction or an obsession, but now you have me wondering how you're going to wrap it! Can't wait...

Simple. It’s a passionately addicted obsession.
Hmmmm.... or is it a.....
Passionately obsessed addiction.
Meh, who cares. Either way it’s fun and that’s all that matters!
Love the cab too.

Super fun! Although my favorite part of this hobby still is hounding- there's nothing like wandering around the prairie for hours in the sunshine, getting out and getting some exercise, spending time with my sons (and grandson) and finally seeing a Fairburn looking up at me that no one else has ever seen. Thanks for the compliment, it is a nice stone and should polish well.

It's definitely an obsession. If it were an addiction, you would be selling your mother's soul for more. That being said, it's a very powerful obsession and one that doesn't fade much with time. My DH does modeling. He thanks me (for some reason) for letting him indulge in his hobby. I tell him, "At least I know where you are. You're not out in some sleazy bar." LOL. Both hobbies are pretty safe and keep us home and out of trouble. I dearly love my hobby time with my husband. We play our music, fill our coffee mugs and chat over rocks and wire, and plastic and glue.
I'm gonna be childless again soon. YAY! It'll be just like the old days. No interruptions, no mealtime schedules, no kid emergencies, etc. We can do hobbies all we want- Time and weather permitting.
