Hi - I am excited to have found this forum! I'm very new and not trying to be an expert, I just like hunting for neat rocks on our vacations, then tumbling them and making jewelry...just started wire wrapping.
I am having an issue with my NatGeo tumbler. I've only had it a little over a year and used it maybe 5 or 6 times - never had a problem but this round it keeps shutting off and the days indicator hasn't advanced past day 1. So i have NO idea how long its actually tumbled (this batch is on step 2). How should I proceed? Start over, take them out, rinse them and do over? And any ideas what could be wrong with the tumbler??
TIA Becky

Hello and welcome from New Jersey. I’d estimate a weeks time and do a total clean out and check the rocks to see if they’re ready to move on to the next stage. If serious about the hobby, you may want to look into a better tumbler like Lortone or Thumlers. They’re made to run nonstop for years with little or no maintenance.

I've been running the Nat Geo since November of 18 without incident, so I'm not sure why it's cutting off. Is the barrel overweight, or is there something preventing it from turning properly? Like RocksInNJ said, estimate one week's time before you clean it out and move to the next stage. Don't waste your time, grit and slurry by taking it out and cleaning it until you are ready to move to the next grit. Maybe once you are ready to do a cleanout, check and make sure everything is turning freely on the base. Good luck.
