Yuppers, this is flint from Howard's Flint Ridge in Jefferson County, MO. Howard is a relative, he got grandiose about his ridge when he found out about the tumblers. These rocks are actually very shiny. Please see my other post for complaints about trying to get shine to show up. The pink is probly mozarkite.

This is really cool, thanks for the feedback, I was really thinking this was a "dull" batch of rock, though all of the local flint or I guess, all flint, does take a great polish. I didn't make a point of it but there is actually a really nice agate nodule in there, the usual MO type agate with quartz outside. And, some of the flint does have some nice patterning, swirls and such, though not in the dramatic colors we love.
Kim, you are a hoot! one time or another probly everything on the table got into a picture.
Alice, I have NFC what I'm gonna do with them, that's how they all ended up on the dining room table!!! (Guess how long it has been since anyone actually ate in the DR?)
Really, other people do get photos that show the wet look shine so well and when that has happened for me it has been totally a random event. Any advice would be welcome.

Oh Alice, I said something dumb up there, I forgot that this batch goes into a sack for Howard, since it is his ridge. I may be creating another sicko in Howard. Stay tuned.

WHAT?? Don't you get to keep any of them? Those pink ones are really neat, that's just a cool color for a rock.
Have you tried taking the pics outside in the sunlight? I can see the shine on them though Pup, they look great. If you're thinking about some of the others where you see the reflections and what not in the stones, those are taken really close up, only a few stones in the picture. Bet you could do it with yours, outside in bright light, use the macro mode on your camera and get up close and personal with just a few in the batch. I'd love to see some closeups of those pink ones.

Thanks! I will take another shot at the photos (so to speak) outdoor and close up. I have tried that before with mixed results. Usually the problem is overexposure.
I've got a fair amount of the pink rock from other locations; it's pretty common locally and I believe it is Mozarkite, from the samples I've seen. I have bunches more of Howard's Ridge flint -- these happened to be the first I got bashed up and could run through the cycles quickly (notice not much effort was spent on rounding). I did them 2 weeks in 60/90 in the big barrel, removing the reasonably smooth ones along the way, and finished them in the lot-o-tumbler vibe.
Overall I thought the pink rock is nice but most of the other is pretty dull. We collected this quickly on Easter when we were about to run out of light and there were lots of leaves on the ground. Probably more searching would turn up more pink or other more colorful stuff.

Thank You PUP-- I had a friend (not howard) send me about 30 pounds of that MO Flint- I got mostly blues and creams with a few reds thrown in- I have it sitting on the shop floor just begging to be worked- Now I see the potential and I think I'll try to cut some up this weekend- It turned out just great!

Hey Stefan--that's cool, do you know in what part of the state he gathered it? Does he do a lot of rockhounding? I'd love to talk rocks with him if he does that sort of thing.
Hope you are going to post some pictures. Don't recall having seen blue anywhere.

Nice tumbling job! As for the colours, I love the pinks. The others don't grab me though. Personal preference.
