Puppie, those are absolutely stunning! Did you do all the work on those? I tried that many years ago, it's sure not as easy as it looks. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Thank you. I used to sometimes be a decoreggor before I was a rocker.
They have a lot in common. They take forever, you have a s*** fit if they crack, and you want the little suckers to have lots of colors and patterns and shine nicely!
They're psanky. (Ukrainian Easter Eggs.)

Ace job Pup. For about 5 years I lived in the heart of the area here in Alberta that was settled by Ukrainians, so I saw lots of those pysankas, in fact the town constructed about a 30 foot metal pysanka as its showpiece. I'm not Ukrainian myself, but it looks to me like you did a great job on those (and you used more colours than the traditional pysankas, I think). I've only seen them done with chicken eggs before, so the goose and ostrich egg is quite innovative.

I get supplies, egg books, etc. from the Ukrainian Gift Shop in Minneapolis. (www.ukrainiangiftshop.com) They use a fairly extensive color set. It has grown in recent years, partly due to improvements in dyes, probably. The contemporary eggsperts depart from the more traditional color sets, sometimes a lot. I've gone in both directions, though I do like some of the more contemporary designs/colors (as you noticed). The gift shop shows chicken, goose and ostrich psanky, though I've had a lot of fun sourcing up little tiny eggs like pullet or guinea or quail eggs and psankying them. I used to go chasing around after eggs the way I do now about rocks. Well, maybe not quite that bad. Goose are the easiest to work with (IMO) and look so spectacular because of the size.

BTW I have never sold one.
Only once (sorta) cause I made friends with an egg man at the Soulard Farmer's Market where I was a regular cause of my egg hunt. I'd suck up to him all the time so he'd save nice ones for me. He asked me to make a couple for him to give to his mom. I didn't charge him much for it & mostly traded for more eggs.

Well, if you were ever interested in selling them, my guess would be that you could e-bay those rather easily.

much better idea than direct selling or consignments. Impossible to get a price even close to the time in them.
Auction would have some hope.

I can't even imagine how long it took and how painskyingly careful you have to be to do it! Yep, I do believe you could do well with them on ebay! Overstock.com also has auctions now. llana

Those are beautiful, I hope they're empty though - my mom had one died with tea and about 3-4 years later it cracked and I asked her what that smell was - well 2 days later she had tiny little maggots in her cupboard Hate to see all that work go in the garbage because it cracks.

Thanks for all the compliments. I'm a little embarrassed really to be showing them on the rock board and apologies to you, Mark, I know you are trying to keep this a rock board and I agree with you..........
Eggs take time and some amount of technical ability, in terms of drawing nice straight even lines and such, but the fundamental thing is the geometry of it...you have to get the egg divided right and lay out the basics of the pattern, and that is, to me, the hardest part. If you get it set up so that you have adequate space for the designs and if the sizes of the repeating designs are more or less equal, you are well on the way.
Thanks everybody for being so nice about it.
