Greetings all! Couple of quick questions to those of you who use a Foredom flex shaft: 1.) Which motor do you use? SR / TX / LX?
2.) Is your foot control plastic or cast iron?
3.) If you have the SR motor - do you use the reverse feature often or hardly at all? Is it important to have?
4.) What model handpiece do you use?TIA for your answers and time. Peace, James

For my carving I prefer my SR motors, but any will do. I got a bunch of CC motors a while back from a jewelry manufacturing shop that had closed, and they have less power but they work fine. I like the 30 handpiece and pretty much only use it. I own one of the smaller collet type handpieces but the smaller diameter doesn't fit my hands even though I certainly don't have huge hands. I like the iron pedal because it stays put better than the light plastic one. I have bench top dial speed controls that I sometimes put in line with the pedal so I don't have to use my foot to control the speed. I have never intentionally used reverse, but I see how it could come in handy.

I use the Tx, I like the extra torque. use the plastic pedal but would prefer the cast iron one.

I have the SR. I haven't used reverse. I got it on sale, so I got reverse.

I have the SR and a plastic pedal. I use the reverse on occasion. They do make reverse thread screw mandrels which I keep forgetting to buy. Using those flings debris away from your face instead of at it.

I have an old CC and a newer L series high-torque unit. I love the L for it's great torque at low speed for both carving and setting faceted stones. The CC's had a lot of use as well for general work with both stones and metal. I have plastic foot controls but would like to upgrade to metal ones for the reasons others have mentioned. However the plastic ones work just fine but are a little less convenient.
I use the #30 handpiece most but also have a quick-change handpiece which also is handy for certain work. I went with the Foredom quick-change but should have bought the more expensive Faro, which is handier.

Thanks everyone for your help! I think I'll be going with Foredom's SR motor, H.30 handpiece and the cast iron foot control. Peace all, James

How do y’all maintain your foredom? I’ve looked online, but I guess In all the wrong places. I bought one second hand years ago and he gave me some type of grease to go into the hand piece.
