Another slice of obsidian that came off the saw last night. Apologies for the lousy photo; this stuff is hard to capture with a 5 yr old phone cam! This one is fun because I see a large night-time scene. Off to the right there is a bay, surrounded by a city. The sheen of the obsidian provides the twinkle of the city lights. The land slopes up to a mountain in the background, capped by a lenticular cloud. I had already taken a couple of slices of this chunk. They are good, but I was thinking of turning the piece and cutting from a different angle. Then I noticed that the bands were swirling around and could get some interesting angles if I took another hack or two at it. Glad I didn't change it.

That is gonna make some sweet cabs I think this one is gonna end up getting set aside until I'm an expert. My dad has a spectacular obsidian belt buckle that he made over 40 years ago, and I'm thinking along those lines for this. Large, flat surface will require (I think) a combination of flat lap and edge shaping.

Looks like a river flowing past a terraced outcropping of cliff dwellers.
