Hello! I am brand new at rock tumbling and I have collected rocks for years, but I am not sure which tumbler I should start with as a beginner. I mostly have river rock as that is the most convenient to collect. I have a few pieces of petrified wood that I would love to tumble as well as some agated. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for letting me be a part of this group!

montanagems Welcome to RTH, from Wisconsin. You’ve come to the right place for these questions. Really you get what you pay for. The Harbor Freight tumbler is a Lortone knockoff. It does work but it’s as cheap as I would go. Lortone and Thumler get good reviews here. If you’re handy you can make your own and buy a barrel for it. Good luck and above all, have fun!

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
We have top notch tumblers here (I'm not one of them). I suggest posting on the tumbling board with your questions. You'll likely get answers much quicker for your questions.

Welcome from VA.
I'm not a big tumbler, but I do know Lortone is a good one. You probably don't want a small one. Most people get their first one small and outgrow it quickly. Later on, you may want to add a vibrating tumbler for a faster polish.
