I need to get this Teepee free. Not sure if it's just one agate in there or two...

Haha, no sir. Way too big. I don't have my other saw home yet, I need to make room. My tile saw won't handle it and I sure don't want to smash it with a sledge. It just sits in my garage, silently mocking me.

You need to skin it.
Skinning is an opal cutting term for taking just a bit of the rind off the stone to see what's inside. We skin opals to see which way the color bars run and which way the stone faces for the best color and flash. Vince will regularly skin other rocks to get host stone and varnish off to determine which way to put it in the saw to slab.

I'm thinking that's a nice specimen or shelf piece. Cut that knob off the top for a flat to stand it up & similar to what Miss Robin said, polish the front.

Hmmm. I'm guessing I'll just have to be patient and wait until I get that saw home then. Dang rock. π Thanks Robin.

I do that with a lot of the picture jaspers, cut and window from a few angles to see what will yield the best look.

Or you could do it with an angle grinder if you have one or even by hand (yikes!). Saws probably aren't the best for skinning I don't think. In my head I just see a mess of gouges unless it was a really fine saw blade.
