These are the smaller quartz than helped the large one get through the process. I feel like I should count them. There's a fair bit of sparkle in these pictures. There's also a fair amount of bruising going on as well despite the efforts to cushion. I guess that shouldn't be too much of a surprise with the big bruiser in there beating on them. It is strange though, because I swear they were super smooth last week... now the edges feel like they need to go back through medium grit. (MEH) Have not burnished them. I now have a big pile of shiny rocks I don't quite know what to do with...

Do like me and keep throwing them back in until they are either perfect or disappear. Do note that with this process they mostly disappear. Lol. On the plus side though, I always have room for more rocks.

Do like me and keep throwing them back in until they are either perfect or disappear. I've considered that. I was pretty picky over those 9 weeks with what I set aside for stage 2, so that they come out this beat up is a little bit of a let down. Thing is I don't really know the answer given that the objective is large material. The big one came out fine, or at least, the imperfections I was willing to live with are accounted for and the corners don't appear bruised. I'm not sure I can avoid this issue entirely. Best I can come up with is to pull the smaller ones I really like aside and run them in a smaller barrel on their own, and then make up whatever difference in the big barrel with ceramics for the final steps.

Well, another idea popped in my head. I do have the 33B empty on standby. These could go back in and get cleaned up. They'd at least need to start back in prepolish, more likely medium grind.
That'd be a 3 week turn around.
Or some combination of these ideas.

Some of this stuff I like quite a bit. There's an area I stumbled on where there's quite a bit of iron staining in and throughout the quartz. I hiked up the hill a few hundred feet and started finding magnetite chunks (top right) all over. At first I thought hematite, but it matched the streak and magnetic tests of magnetite. As you see on that right side, I have some quartz with the magnetite inclusions. I had nicknamed this blood quartz because of how it looked like blood veins running through it, but blood quartz is already taken so I need to come up with a new name.
