I was recently contacted by a man who saw an article in the paper about me. I'll spare you the story about the article, but there was an article on a radio station website first. I'll leave links, if you want to read them. Radio Station Link, Read First. Detroit Free Press Article. Anyhow, Bob wants to sell some rocks and contacted me about their value. I have no idea, so I offered to post pictures here and get your opinion. I'll give Bob the link to this thread, so he might chime in with more information. Here are the rocks, with the information I have about them. captbob roy catmandewe Who else knows rock values? Rock #1 Museum quality petrified wood. Phone for scale 2. Museum quality float copper, over 40 lbs. 3. Not sure what this is. 4. Obsidian 5. Rose Quartz 6. Unknown, found by Bob on Humphrey's Peak near Flagstaff, Arizona 7. Petrified wood 8. Unknown crystal pocket

I like that chunk of float copper. Is he marketing to museums with the top several pieces? He just wants to sell it. He considers the big pet. wood and the copper to be "museum quality". He paid quite a bit for those two and isn't sure what their current value is. He wants to sell at a fair price. I'm not sure what the problem is with the pictures for some of you. I'm using the Rock Show picture hosting here at RTH.

There are two large Michigan float copper specimens on etsy right now in that weight range. Keep in mind these are asking prices. No telling if they will ever sell at that price. Float copper oneFloat copper twoChuck

He should just say what he want for them. Shipping the pet would will make it a non seller in my book. Without knowing more about the pet wood, it is yard rock value to me.

Just because the pet wood is big doesn’t mean museum quality. Those pics don’t do anything for me
The copper is probably worth a lot. The wood and the rest not so much
50 cents to two dollars a pound depending for everything but the copper

I know nearly nothing about rocks. But your pictures inspired me to learn what float copper is. That is a very cool piece.

I think he just wants what's fair and he's not sure what that is. I think he said he bought them about 20 years ago. He had a plan to ship the pet wood, similar to the way he received it. Something about a plastic trash can and sawdust. I don't know the first thing about pet. wood, so I didn't know if that was a great piece or just a big piece.

It may be a good piece, a great piece in my mind would be one that is a section of a log that would make full rounds. What kills the shipping is the wight of the item. can get expensive real quick.

Obsidian, if it's just plain black or Silver Sheen is only worth .25 - .50 cents a pound.. Other Obsidian maybe $1.50 - $3.00 a pound..

It seems to me that the Petrified Wood appears to be an interesting piece for the yard, but not something I am going to want enough to pay for the material and the shipping.
