hi all, just an update for you on my progress with those (#@%) Costa Rican rocks my friend brought back from her vacation. here is what i'd posted earlier and here again just for grins:

well, they were SO soft i didn't dare put them in the tumbler and i had an idea that they weren't gonna be easy to deal with on the grinder either, but my friend really wanted a set of earrings for her mother, so i finally had a go with saw and grinder and produced:

i glued some bell caps on one set as an emergency back up, BUT the gold filled ear screws(for non-pierced ears) were SO off the plated cap color, i would have had to order a different set of screws.

anyway, i double dopped all these, sweated cursed and ignored them for a while because i knew they would crumble when i tried to drill them. FINALLY i could ignore them no longer as Mother's Day approacheth! so i had to bite the bullet.

and yes, a few were damaged and i'm going to try and regrind them and set them in silver (someday), but here is what i ended up with:

needless to say, i was happy, she was happy and hopefully her mother will be too!
