Good morning all-
I'm checking to see if anyone uses, or has used the High Tech Diamond slant cabber? I'm about ready to buy a machine and through my personal research, I've all but decided to go with the slant cabber. Nothing beats personal experience though, so I'm reaching out to the community here to see if anyone can shoot me a review?

This was my cab machine choice due to mainly living in an apartment at the time and it was easy to set up inside, cost effective, hardly any mess and very portable.
I however, really wish I would of just waited and gotten the cabking (or similar).
It is a great little machine, but it has a totally different learning curve to it.
I now am using a ringleader and the slant lap is for polishing only
If you have more specific questions, let me know and I will see if I can answer them for you

Hey thanks Star Diamonmd! Do you know if these wheels can be used on a a regular 2 wheel grinding machine from Home Depot? Honestly, I want to be able to make quality stones, but they are only for personal use and for gifts so my budget is pretty tight. Also, I move OFTEN, so I need a smaller and more compact machine tghat is fairly easy to travel with..

A "home depot" or similar bench grinder isn't made for wet grinding, and I think the speed is also incorrect for lapidary work. If you grind dry, you'll build up a lot of heat and ruin the wheels or your work piece, and create a lot of bad dust. Water serves to lubricate and cool the grinding and polishing work, as well as to control that dust.

A grinder needs to be made for lapidary use. I would recommend looking for something like the GP6 or a lapidary arbor on craigslist to save on shipping. My first machine was a beast and purchased locally. You probably want something that is table top. Lapidary is not cheap hobby but bargains can be found.

Money is always a factor it seams. I had thought about using a drip unit, but didn't think of soeeds. My $500 budget will double at the least, I'm sure. Thanks much for giving me this information!

Here's a bit of an idea for a very basic cabbing machine, you will need an arbor made for wet conditions. A 220 grit diamond wheel will do nicely on one end. an expanding drum on the other end that you can slip different grit belts on and off. Or alternatively undo the nut and slip a different soft wheel on. Have a look at what other people have done for home made units on threads here, There are some good builds and if you can do it yourself it can work out fairly economical. Hans in China have expanding drums for around $22 last time I looked, belts for the drums were similar price.

It also does quality work.

DominicK , I messed up and posted the wrong link, but this is Michael Sage's listing and I'm sure he could help you if you PM's him. The proper link where you may find some worthwhile stuff is:
It's the Lapidary Equipment Buy, Sell, Trade group.

I got 3 brand new 1/4 hp motors off of Amazon for under $100 each (use the link at the top of the page to start your search and this site gets a few bucks to keep it going) Michael Sage has a shop about 2 or 3 miles from me, he does a good job of restoring tools.
