Well, I played hooky from work, pulled my daughter outta school and headed out for more rocks. We had a great day riding our 4wheelers and picking up goodies in south central Utah. Pictured mostly are agates and jasper. Found some dinosaur gizzard stones and even a few hunks of petrified wood. We also found ourselves on top of the world.....man this place we live on is pretty big!!!! Pict 1: Agates ranging from football size to softball size. Pict 2: Agates ranging from baseball size and smaller. Pict 3: Agates golfball size and smaller. Pict 4: Some really neat orange agate. We took a break from the 4wheelers, ate some oranges, and hiked up this wash and found these little guys. The biggest found was golf ball sized. They are kinda crumbly...don't know if they'll hold up in the tumbler. Pict 5: Agate closeup. Baseball sized. Pict 6: My daughter on the edge of the earth. 1000 ft below is lies the desert floor and countless earthly treasures. My daughter went thru about 6 pieces of french toast at the local eatery afterwards. At first the waitress brought out 2 pieces and I'm like "ya right", She pounded them by the time I got "can we have a couple more please" out!!! LOL. Very hungry after a long day!!! Later, Gaeter#nosmileys

Great find, AND a great day. Nothing beats that time out with the daughter, just kicking around with 'Dad'. Way to go, she'll remember it for years, and so will you. Good goin' Gaetz.
I took the day off work today too. I finally got my 14" slab saw. Ya Hooo!

OMG Gaetz that stuff is awesome. What a wonderful day you two had and what great finds. Your daughter is just a cutie, I think that's so great you could spend the day with her like that .... nothing more special than making memories. That's a breathtaking photo, you live in a beautiful area.
That orange stuff looks like my hematite after it's been outside all winter only mine is from rust. Hope it tumbles for you, the color is really neat.

The photo was taken on the Cedar Mountain Overlook just outside Price, Utah. The picture is facing West over the San Rafael Swell.
Been there before?

I was gonna scold you for taking your daughter out of school and calling in sick.. Till I saw the photos. What better lesson than Mother Earth 101. Incedible finds! Just awesome! Are you going to sell some of that? (as if I need any more rocks right now ) Now, don't you make a habit of this, school is very important, but being a "really cool Dad" now and again is too. ;D cookie

I want to pull my girl out of school to do a little hounding (actually the local fossil bed just opened) and she flat out refuses to miss any school (she has only missed 3 days in 4 years) But she promised to go with me this summer (the wife refuses to go fossil hunting)

Gaetz, that's some great looking material you are finding. You are certainly going to be kept busy tumbling all that stuff... time for a bigger tumbler

Gaetz, took me awhile to answer as I had to make a trip to Grand Junction, then had company all last week. I've never been to the lookout, but have been in the San Rafael area a good number of times. That is all such beautiful country. I'm hoping to hunt the Green River area in October. Thanks for posting the pictures. Nugget
