There was a piece of butterfly wing jasper rough that I had on my watch list. Nothing in the piece showed anything desirable but it was cheap. I placed a test bid to get an idea where it would end up today. My bid was rejected, so I messaged the seller:
I tried to place a bid on this item for $7 and received a message that seller wouldn't accept my bid.
Response:
OK there are several reasons why this may have happened, either you had another ebay name that is on my blocked ebay buyer list, or you have had a non-payment against you in the last year, in either case I cannot allow you to bid on any items I have available.
thanks and sorry Everett
My response:
None of that is true. I've been on ebay for 19 years with a 100% positive feedback. I don't remember buying from you before. I've never been blocked from bidding before and there lots of options for buying lapidary material. I recommend you check your settings because you are 100% wrong and may be losing business. I have been demeaned but it is a non issue since I will never buy from you.
His response:
Again sorry and thank you.

My ebay account was my wife's half.com account and was merged into ebay some years ago. It has a very distinctive id appended with _half so a data entry issue is unlikely. A failure to pay could have happened as part of a dispute over a purchase years ago but there should be no negative information on the account. I called ebay to confirm and the account is clean with no defects. I filed a complaint against the seller.

Weird, you’d think he would want to make a sale.

That’s crazy. eBay is the Wild West.

There are a lot of things that eBay sellers have no control over, or are so difficult to find they may as well not exist.
I have bought from Everett, both electronically and in person. He was very easy to work with and very accommodating.

He was very easy to work with and very accommodating. My gripe was his inflexibility and unwillingness to attempt to resolve the issue. I search by item not by seller. I see that the majority of his listings are books and periodicals.

I have dealt with him also, E wouldn't be someone I would do further business with. Not going to badmouth someone online, but I would not recommend him as a seller on e-bay based on my experiences

It's not the seller's duty to find out why your account is flagged in Ebay's system. I see no reason here to advise folks to "run away" from this ebay seller.

According to ebay my account isn't flagged. I always try to work things out and he was being dismissive. Assuming the situation was resolved, I would not do business with him or recommend his store.

As a seller, I would make an attempt to get more information. I called ebay customer service and my account is not flagged. I opened a complaint against the seller which will be investigated and am actually doing him a favor. Unless he is using some non ebay buyer verification system the problem is between him and ebay and I was being impacted.

I think you did right reporting him. No telling why he is doing this. Do you leave a lot of negative reviews? He could be doing it for that reason. Which is wrong- but at least I could understand that.
I've run into a few who just simply have bad selling practices. My biggest pet peeve is shipping and handling gouging. Won't even bid on those. However, the vast majority of sellers that I have had communication with have been awesome. Some have even lowered their shipping- usually turns out to be an eBay or listing issue and not an attempt to gouge.

I haven't left a negative review in a very long time. I follow the best practice of messaging someone when displeased. Most sellers bend over backwards to satisfy the customer. I communicate a lot. Ask questions about items, thank sellers for material I really like and even send pictures of finished cabs made from their material. Good relations with sellers is a good practice. I recently bought a large piece of Horse Canyon rough, got the shipping label notification but it was likely that the seller forgot to ship. I sent a polite email, got an apology and a picture of a bunch of material he was going to include in the package. I mentioned that I had bought some Tahoma from him before and he said he would see what he has. The package was shipped and I should get it tomorrow. I'll post the review tomorrow.
I buy on ebay a lot; more than 50 lapidary items in the last year and have had very few disappointments. I had only one complete dud and that was a piece an inexpensive piece of unfaced Willow Creek rough. I messaged the seller asking what I should be looking for in WC. I have found some inexpensive material from the same seller that produced some nice cabs. I am willing to gamble when the price is low.
