Hmmm, cabbing needs to be in water.

If the wheels could be enclosed with a hood and slide into some trays like a Genie it might work. Geysers and aquarium pump would do the cooling as long as water could be kept out of the motor. I would prefer this to a flat lap. .

It works well for buffing and polishing silver.
Cabbing, carving, water...NOT what this machine is designed to do.

this machine shows up a lot when i click the Amazon link on here so i thought maybe someone had tried it out. but there are maybe a dozen reviews across a handful of machines. it looks like i am better off trying to find a dedicated machine to start doing "Dremel cabs" or i will have to just build a cabbing machine.

I think that’s a good way to go. Menards has a good buy on little diamond dremel wheels. Keep dipping the rock in water and wear a mask. Find out if you enjoy rock shaping and go from there. Jmo

I know I don't want a Dremel, the corded ones get way too hot and the electricity and water are too close and the battery ones last about 5 minutes. I don't want a pneumatic on either because I would have to buy a compressor and the get too cold with extended use. i am thinking about a drill press, that will allow me to make round plugs and drill holes in them.or i could just get one of these and plumbers' tape it to a 4x4 and bolt that to my bench. I don't know if i am going to start on the cabbing adventure right now, or just expand my tumbling capacity

Works on older 395 models up to new ones. No electricity going through it so no risk of electrocution. Handle is thin and lightweight. Handle can get hot at times but usually after 15-20 minutes of nonstop use at near max rpms. Which dont normally need to do when shaping rocks. Just fyi In case u dont find more suitable option for what u intend to do

I know there are accessories for the Dremel and that dremel makes more than just the rotary multi tool I know I would like to be able to make things out of stone to give as gifts and maybe sell I just don't know what the next step for me is especially since I am only able to spend about $150

I've got one, and it's a reasonable stand in for a proper flex shaft. I've done a bit of stone carving with it with just a bowl of water and cheap plated diamond burrs. I don't think I would like it much as a cab grinder though.
