A while back somebody posted some backlit rock photos which stimulated me to make this light box. I used six LED light bulbs (dimmable) in a cardboard box shining through a glass plate covered with a garbage bag. It has a dimmer control so I can turn lights up or down as desired. I haven't used it much for anything but my recent glasss tumbles turned out OK so I wanted to see how they would look on the light box . I wanted to see how banded agates would look back lit as well. One thing lead to another and as you can see I ended up with some pretty amateur glass arrangements 1st photo is the lightbox, 2nd = lights on and 3rd = lights off. Lights on washes out the colors and totally kills the shine appeal but better displays glass with patterns? For me overall max visual impact with these two photos is with lights off...I'm wondering if there's an optimum balance of shine/backlight that could best display both? I'm going to play around with it some more but I'd be interested in everybody's take on this... light box by braat33, on Flickr lights on by braat33, on Flickr lights off by braat33, on Flickr

2nd pic is for sure the best, I would say. I like to kill the rocks with blinding light from above and it kind of seems to reflect off of the backdrop and back through the transparent stones or glass. My 2 cents. I am by no means a professional and put much less time into the limited photography I do than you have.
