We discovered a barred owl today sitting on a branch about 6 feet out from our dining room window. From its size, it's either a male or a yearling — and perhaps a returning one of the four that visited us last year ( Baby Barred Owls). Cute little guy. He or she was busy looking around for lunch when I came up to the window with my camera. Barred owls are unafraid of humans, so the owl just stared back at me. It's been on the branch for an hour now, and most of that time it's been sleeping. Looking for rodents must be hard work!

Great picture!
So, they are known, in general, to all be unafraid of humans- as a trait? That's curious.

Thank you.
Showing no fear of humans is their reputation. They are also an aggressive, invasive species in the West Coast, driving out and threatening the survival of native owls. They migrated from the northern and eastern states.

Owls are cool. Nothing quite sends a chill down your spine like going outside at night and having one in the tree above you sound off.
