I went to my local rock show today. I'm glad they decided not to cancel it. Now that I have a vibe lap I found myself checking out things to polish instead of slabbing/cabbing material. These 9 agates and hunk of picture jasper were $10. Couldn't pass them up! I know a few are Brazilians, but if anyone can ID the others I'd appreciate it. I think he said the jasper is African Queen but if that's wrong too please let me know. Thanks!  |

Thanks Tela. Definitely a few slabs in that piece. The face is 2.5" x 4" & it's 2.5" thick.

aDave had just pointed out to me that flickr embeds could be clicked on to expand for better viewing and the trick came in handy for getting a better look at the "Deschutes" that was of interest to the thread. A pretty piece of rough indeed.

Some nice finds there. I am supposed to be a vendor at a show here in two weeks but I have a feeling it will be cancelled like everything else. We have an actual statewide ban on any events of 250 people or more.
EDIT: 20 minutes after my post I got a call cancelling our gem and mineral show. Kind of figured that was coming. Understandable but that sure cuts into my spring/summer rock hobby budget. I only do two shows a year. One in the spring and one in the fall so cancelling one hurts a bit.

Chuck I understand completely. I figured they kept this show going for the same reason. It was pretty busy there this morning too.
Ali I have 4 pieces on the lap already. I'd like to keep it running all night but don't want it to dry out so it'll take me most of the week probably to finish them.

Thanks Robin. I just got the 4 off the lap & rinsed off. 3 were ready to move to the next step so I left one behind. At this rate maybe I'll have them polished by tomorrow evening 👍

I'm heading to West Bend shortly to go to the kettle moraine geological society show. I want to support them also for not shutting down because of the virus scare.
Maybe I'll find more $1 rocks 😁

nice selection. I went to that show on Sun. bought some real nice Amazonite from Colorado but that was it. Crowd was minimal..
