I am working on a build right now for an agate eating tumble prep grinder. I have all of the parts gathered and the only hold up is waiting for the arbor to come back from being sandblasted and powder coated. The wheels are 8" diamter Neosint brand sintered in 30 grit and 60 grit. I really cant wait to get this thing done. Stay tuned for updates. This is the arbor that is going to be used. Should come back in a nice modern Lortone blue. Chuck

For anyone not familiar with sintered wheels they have a 3mm-5mm thick layer of diamonds embedded into matrix. Typical plated grinding wheels just have a single layer of diamonds on a steel core. The sintered wheels last some people a lifetime. 5mm of diamond matrix to work with on the Neosint wheels Chuck

I canβt find the mega grinder builds where they stacked blades, anyone know where it is? Those were mostly labeled super grinders. Similar concept only those tend to chip a bit more if there is any gap at all in the stacked blades. I should add that this build would not be possible for me at the retail price of these wheels. Retail is over $1,000 for the two wheels. I got these as barely used old stock from someone that used them on some obsidian points. Chuck

I canβt find the mega grinder builds where they stacked blades, anyone know where it is? Evan, I've constructed a grinder made by stacking the bucket wheels from four Bagger 293 excavators. Most people are using 6 inch or 8 inch wheels, but this one is 71 feet. It's not sintered, but it grinds pretty well. It is wearing out a little faster than I'd hoped. I mostly use it to grind agates, some hard jaspers and for putting a pre-polish on obsidian. Bagger 293 Bucket-Wheel Excavator

That's a nice old arbor, I started my cutting life on one of them. Still running smooth 25 years later.

In case I donβt find lightly used sintered wheels, how does a tuck blade compare to a super grinder?

In case I donβt find lightly used sintered wheels, how does a tuck blade compare to a super grinder? Point tuck blades all have gaps like shown here. That scares me a bit when thinking of holding small wet rocks and getting close to that thing spinning. I know James created some guarding on his but still takes some nerve. My grinder is going to be dual purpose in that I want to be able to use it for cabbing and for tumble prep. I will probably be using the 30 grit wheel for tumbles and 60 grit for cabs.| Point Tuck Blades Chuck

Interested to see this get put together and put to the test to see your wheel grinding power. Low grit sintered wheels should last a long time even when preshaping decent size rocks you think? Very cool

Called the sandblasting company that has my grinder yesterday and got no answer. I did get a recording saying no customers would be allowed in their buildings during the covid-19 pandemic. They said customers need to stay in their car in the parking lot and to text them. They would bring out the product and load it. All business transactions to happen outside. Really hope to they have it done next week if they do not completely shut down.

Well with the state of Michigan shutting down all non essential businesses for the next three weeks I decided to go pickup my unfinished grinder from the sandblasting company. The guy I dealt with was super cool about it. The grinder had been sandblasted and was ready for powder coat. He told me I can go ahead and use it as is during this time and when this all clears to just bring it back and they will start over. So just for something fun to do I am going to assemble a really down and dirty working mock up so I can at least run it during this 3 week shelter in place period.

Sounds good Chuck. Remember - pix or you're lying ππ I have never been accused of not posting enough pictures, lol. My picture to word ratio has to be top 20 on here. Build is done and tested. Pictures later today. My office is shut down but I am still working from home. Chuck
