Guess the forum hiccuped and only let Jack post the first time I asked so hope you don't mind if I repost it. LOL I'm still curious. As I mentioned before, my main plan is to try and make stepping stones to give to my grandkids and decorate them with the polished agates. Of course, as the addiction takes over ... I think I already have a serious case of RTOCD (rock tumbling obsessive compulsive disorder). Poor hubby panics the minute ebay comes up on the screen. LOL So ... What do you do with your finished rocks? Cher

I make walking sticks and put stones in the natural grooves and on top. I also have made a bunch of magnets. Also a weathered wood planter for a rock and cactus garden. If you wanna see pics, look under member photographs for Walking Sticks and Other Rock Craft Projects. A lady I worked for gave me this piece of driftwood on a cement base. I have plans to do the cement base in a polished rock mosaic and have some ideas for the driftwood, but won't really know what I am going to do with them until I actually start working on it. I also have thought about doing some stepping stones with polished rock, also a mosaic table top, wind chimes, and a dozen other things. Just don't know when I will get around to actually doing them. llana

I have posted a foto under NZ fotos , where you will find very nicely polished agates placed around an old waterpump as a garden feature. andother is a wishing well and yet another is a wall , yet another is paved area with all nice shiny rocks of many descriptions.
Yes , when we put our creative mind to it , many wonderous things might come about. I have to create a lot more of the shiny stones first before I can further my aspirations. I will have to tell my big kids to get their own tumblers , that way mine will get freed up for my own projects haha.

Great ideas and terrific photos. That's a neat idea, decorating the walking sticks with them.

Hi, I'm new to all of this, haven't even purchased any materials yet, but I am extremely interested in the jewelry making aspect of rock tumbling. My question is about drilling - do you use a regular power drill with a very fine bit, or do you use a special lapidary drill? Also, do you use a clamp to hold the rocks for drilling?

KD, you definitely have a N*I*C*E drill set up!
I have a dremel drill press setup and lots of diamond bits, just haven't yet even attempted to drill anything. But, the time is comin'! ;D

Hello Cher, If you can think of it ... I have probably tried it with a rock! Well, not everything ! I am a custom cab cutter and I cut a lot of stone for jewelers and smiths alike (silversmiths & goldsmiths). I prefer the free form design cabs the most . I also make fishing lures from rock as well as guitar picks. I have made door knobs for cabinets and buttons as well, just to name a couple of the different items that I have tried over the years. You can see some of the photo's I have posted within the board. Hope you like them! Enjoy, John

I've seen some of the guitar picks. I can't believe that they wouldn't break though, unless they are just for looking at? Seems like that's too much work for something like that. Cher
